JR T-Stat

This is for B-Series Integras is it the same for the CLS?

Quote:
Jackson Racing Thermostat
If you haven't replaced your thermostat and your car has over 30,000 miles on it, order one of our 160 degree thermostats. It will reduce the operating temperature allowing better power and resistance to detonation.
Never run more than 50% anti-freeze to water ratio in the engine. Water cools better than anti-freeze but does not have the high resistance to boiling or ability to resist freezing. So you must keep SOME antifreeze in the engine, but try to run as little as possible.

It could work but doesn't look exact. I now the Mugen unit does work and is correct. But considering this has been put in a B-Series it should work. The temp rating sounds low though...

The one main difference I can see is the lack of a stud on the stat. This was required to be at the 12:00 position when installed. The other thing is the stock and Mugen stat extend down below the botton of the frame.

But at $10 it doesn't hurt too bad to try it...

Looks like the picture was cropped at the bottom. I had this stat on my Civic - never knew it fits the CL-S!?!

Cool, that guy much live in FL or Cali who wrote that...

LOL

He'd have a hard lesson to learn here in the midwest soon as winter hit.

After seeing all of the dyno(s) will the lower #'s after warmup. It seems like it would be worth changing.

JR thermostat is a "rebadge" Staint thermostat.

Is that supposed to be Stant?? It certainly does look like a regular stat available on the market. I do hope it fits and works well as the $69 price I paid for the Mugen unit still hurts...

Yes, I'm 100% that it is. I replaced mine thermostat in the turbo integra awhile back with JR...$10 or so...went to Pepboys and whoala, there it is...Stant for $4.99....

so is it better to get a Tstat that turns on the fans at 160 degrees or 180? is there a powerloss at all when the fans keep turning on so much?

No, no, the stat just lets the coolant flow to the radiator at a lower temp. The Mugen Fan Switch would also be needed in order to turn the fans on at a lower temp also.

You have to do both, not one or the other.

We'll see how it works.

If the JR thermostat seems turns out to be the Stant thermostat and I paid $5 too much, it's okay. If it doesn't fit and doesn't work, that is okay too - at least we learned something for $10!

Worst-case, I'll have to take the plunge for the Mugen one!

Steve.

I thought you looked into 'generic' thermostats at the local parts stores... and it didn't look like anything would fit, am I right? In this case... the JR unit must be modified in some manner to fit the B-series motors!?!

Nope, I never made it to the auto parts store, someone else on the forum did. After I pulled mine and saw the dimensions I knew my local parts stores would not have anything similar, I do live in the south. The only lower temp stats at local parts stores around here will be for Ford or GM only!!!

I'm with ya there, I am still cringing from shelling out $69 + shipping for a stat...

JR T-Stat

I just received the T-Stat... boy they were quick - 24 hour turnaround!!

Anyways.... I will probably install it once I receive the Mugen Fan Switch - so maybe during the weekend.

I AM worried about the 160 degrees though. There are a lot of disadvantageous of running the motor that cold... increased wear & tear for one. Second.... I don't know if these OBD-II computers will trip a code if the engine doesn't get warm enough.

I will stick with the factory Antifreeze/water mix as I don't really want the motor to be at 160 degrees... maybe 170 will be okay.

Any comments?

With the Mugen stat my car will stay in the 170 - 175 range while cruising and then creep up to 180 while stopped.

It will be interesting to see how the ECU will react to the 160 stat. As mentioned before, I set a DTC with the drilled stat but that was due to a slow warm-up. I give ya a 50/50 chance of setting a code...
