jen s 01 cl banging

ok heres the deal, in the morning and thru out the day when the car sits and cools down after a few hours i start the car ok..

when i start the car i hear this banging noise under the hood. now i am experienced with older cars and older technology but i don't know if the explanation i got is correct.

the dealership says that it is a normal sound. they say its the motor mount being activated when i start it. now i wasnt born yesterday and i am male , so i feel like they are screwing me, maybe they are right. can you shed some light on this please. its a clp 01 with 45,000 miles and no mods except k&n

A pop type sound or also a clunk one time on start up is normal .This will happen from time to time and is related to the two chamber vacuum controlled engine mounts .Per Acura nothing can be done to elminate this noise .However on higher mileage cars it is possible that the engine mounts fail .This can be identified by a very audible bang as you go from drive to reverse or reverse to drive .Have your dealer inspect the mounts for possible cracks in the rubber .Not however that if the mounts are not damaged and the noise you are experiencing occurs only once after startup (usually a cold start) then you have a normal condition .

so when i shift i should not be able to hear any loud noise?
if i sit ther and go from d to r it does make a louder jumping noise, but i am worried that if i tell the dealer about this b/c of all the other probs that they will not take it seriously. maybe i'll address it later

there should be very little noise if any after the car is warmed up going from drive to reverse or the other way .Best bet Dallison is to schedule an appointment and demonstrate the noise to the service personnel. This way there is no ambiguity about what you are concerned with .The pop/clucnk on cold start ONLY occurs during start up not any other time .

if you are talking about the ticking, that is normal.

what's the purpose of the vacuum mount? smoothness? better control for torque transfer to the wheels? just curious.

The engine mounts are designed to absorb low and high speed engine vibrations (idle and off idle ) .To do this a two chambered engine mount is employed that is controlled by vacuum .Moslty this is a comfort not performance related device .

So if your boosted, at high speed, the engine floats? Cool.
