I don't know anything about reported figures.

But there is a 3.0 S-Type in my family, we have had it for 2 years, and it's never had any problems to speak of.

I will say that it is driven by someone who is not exactly an enthusiast, but no problems or failures have been experienced so far

if you willing to pay $70K for a Jag, go get the M5 or RS6!

1. S-Type R: $62K+
a. Automatic, so sometimes the wife can drive it too, I hope not
b. 4.2 V8 supercharged w/ intercooler, 400hp, 405torque, performance: 5-5.3 sec 0-60mph
c. I just love the look, elegant & classy, front mount intercooler, the way it drives.

2. M5: $70K +, no automatic, wife can't drive it, 8K more.
a. big V8, 395 - 400 hp, high 4secs 0-60mph.
b. very nice looking also, we both love the look too...
c. manual only

3. Audi RS6: $65K+, not available yet.
a. V8 twin turbo, 450hp, but I & wife don't like the look of any Audis... Sorry Audi lovers...

1st choice: S-Type R, second choice would be M5 if it ever comes out w/ an auto.

im understand what youre saying. the jag would be an incredible car no matter what. about the M5, its just what i heard but, next body style, 2003 or 2004 would have the V10 and a 7 speed SMG which if you dont know is the equivelint of an auto

The S-Type R is hot.....my oldman isn't into it though, so he's getting an 03 XJR (trying to force him into the R1 package, 2 piece wheels and Brembos)- we'll see.

M5 is cool, I'm just sick of the current 5 series body.

I can definitely understand your view, and agree somewhat (albeit my wife can drive a stick, hrmm that sounded weird... )

But the IC on the Jag is a liquid/air unit attached to the blower. The radiator for the IC system is also hidden, so no traditional Front Mount.

RS6, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! :wackit:

I read a magazine that it will be somewhere in the 57000 pound price range which roughly puts it in the high $80000 range. I'd also assume that the M5 will be going up in price as well with the new v10! Those two cars are gonna be nasty with the Audi having sick aftermarket potential!

Accually Jaguar has done really good lately as far as TGW(things gone wrong). I accually work for Ford and in our monthly news letter they had some stats on the major car companies and TGW #'s. I was shocked to see that Jaguar was #1 with the fewest thigns gone wrong. This was out of all the major car companies...///???
You really cant look a the Jag as a Ford even though it may be made on the same platform as the Lincoln LS. They do hold it to a higher standard.
I worked in an assembly plant that built Fords & Mazdas. The pick-ups to be exact. Its sad to say but the truth is when it came time to inspect the vehicles; the Mazda went through a lot more detailed testing and examining than the Ford did.

That Jag is a sweet car no matter what anyone says! If you wanted you could even tow a boat with all that torque.

Jag quality actually got much better when Ford took them over....before that, Jag was plagued with electrical problems up the ying yang and ho hum build quality; They were close to going under.

The X-Type is not representative of what the other models consist of.....its based off the Ford Mondeo, which is a shit platform- even with the AWD (they did that for cost reasons).

The current XJ, XK8, and upgraded 03 S-Type models are solid cars.

You think Mercedes quality got better when they merged with Chrysler?....the answer, absolutely not.

mercedes quality sucks.

i cant say their worse, but their no better then acura.

benz's, no matter how how lookin and how cool the gizmos... are not worth the cash you pay when talking about quality.

the materials they use inside the car SUCK... they rattle, they feel like ass after a couple thousand miles... and their just not a "superior german machine"

audi & bmw TRUMP them in quality.

i believe with the NEW S-Type, jaguar does too... (this comment does not include the 00-02 models )

I actually heard their reliability was less than par.. check out www.carreview.com. Consumer reports 2002 also does NOT recommend the s-type becuase it is plagued by 'reliability issues' in the electrical, integrity, and braking categories.
