Honda Motor cancels Acura Cl coupe
TORRANCE, Calif. -- Honda Motor Co., Japan's second-biggest carmaker, is scrapping the Acura CL coupe after a drop in sales and is pricing the new Acura TSX sport sedan below rival models from Toyota Motor Corp.'s Lexus and Bayerische Motoren Werke AG's BMW to boost the brand's average sales growth. The 2004 TSX went on sale Thursday for $26,490, Acura spokesman Matt Pearson said. The sports car costs at least $1,000 less than models Honda identified as its main competitors. CL coupe sales dropped 25 percent in March from the year before and posted a 35 percent decline in the first quarter.

NONE of my friends want my car. I've been trying to sell it for over a month now. Most common answer I get is:
I heard it's discontinued and your on your second tranny? No Thanks.
Now, more than ever i'm on a mission to dump this car, probably end up giving it back in to the bank and pay the high mileage fees.

You will have a tons of parts at any Acura dealer.. the reason why the CL is gone is 2 fold:
1) Extremely Low Sales
2) TL is redesigned and no way to keep 2 different lines of production. The new TL would not look like the current CL.
I say it is a good move... remember the first generation disappeared and returned as CLS!!

We all knew it was coming. Personally, I don't give a flying rat's ass. It just makes my car all the more special.
Parts don't go away when a car is discontinued; finding an odd part won't become an issue for decades.

I'm glad it's discontinuing.. Makes our cars more unique and hard to get..
Would you rather have a car that lasts years and years, and thus one year is only marginally better than the previous years?
Not me.
Amen! We have our CLs, we're lucky.

I still say the CL-S should have never been introduced without the 6 speed, big marketing mistake. S was for speed, sport, but no Shifter??
Lost a lot of potential sales right away. I know this was one of the biggest drawbacks to Legend drivers who wanted another 6cyl/6speed shifter. This and the conservative styling doomed it from being a bigger success. Don't know why they didn't follow the success of the Legend/Coupes, always had manual 5/6 shifts, were sportier styled, (G2 Legends cost $10k more tho).
Now EVERYTHING new they bring out has manual shifters!(except the RL, which is a Legend!)
It's clear most resources go the the sedans, TL and now the TSX, and the RSX for lower cost, younger buyers. The spin off premium coupe is like an afterthought. Acura went from having one of the most popular premium coupes to now being a has been trailing behind, Infiniti, Nissan, domestics, even Toyota Solara sells more.
I love my 6 speed CLS. Just wish Acura had understood what Acura coupe buyers want!

Im soo glad I got my 6 speed just for that reason I could not have picked a better time. One thing you guys have to remember the only big difference will be in aftermarket parts which we never had except Comptech. Once again we should always thank the fact that Comptech will never forget about the CL-S even though its being dropped..

Personally, I hope they never bring the CL back. That would make what we have that much more special and rare. Plus, we would never have to deal with newer model envy!
I think there is something special about having the final production year of a model. That is certainly the case with the Legend.

good think I am on a lease, I only have till next june and my 01 CLS is history. I can feel the trans dying already and the last thing I would ever do is buy out a discontinued troublesome car. My business will most likely end up at infiniti

Having a discontinued car sucks...
I went through it with my Cougar.

No 2004 model, the last CL will be built in June/July (or that's what the rumors say). If you do a search, you'll find alot of threads about the CL's demise.
We'll have to want and see it Acura comes out w/ a "new and improved" CL for another model year (MY 2005/2006??).

Welcome to the "Discontinued Ford/Acura owners" Club
Yeah...supposedly Ford was going to bring the Cougar back also in 04/05 on the new Mustang platform.
Make it into the Mustang sister car it was in the 60-70s.
Guess we'll just have to wait and see.
That sucks the CL is getting axed!
The TL is safe tho, right?

Your tranny is probably fine. The 01 and 02 models (and maybe some 03s) have had the trannies die on them at anywhere from 1000 to 60,000 miles. They're covered to 100,000k/7 years though.

acura will come back. shit everyone knows they stoppped production of the 1st gen and no 2000 model CL and then a whopping 260hp CL TYPES in 2001. just think of it as acura doing some more Homework and coming back to SLAUGHTER the competition.

if your thinking about a new CL better get a move on cause production days are limited.
but try to get a 6 speed because there's so few I think they'll be worth something some day

and it did as a fwd luxury sport coupe. only recently have other manufacturers bettered it's hp ratings. and the interior and styling are still top notch imo.
my car hauls ass and turns heads wherever i go

I really don't think the CL's demise is relevant. Honda will never stop supplying parts for one of their cars. I love mine. I don't think that if I decide to sometime in the future it won't sell. There may be a problem with the automatics (tranny failure) but not the 6 speed. The 6 speed is a different beast. HLSD. Handles much better, wonderful shifter and transmission. No worry about transmission failure.
A semi classic.... you wait and see.

I'm glad I got mine last month, thanks to the forum I knew they were dropping it, but actually Honda was hinting at it in 2002.
I love it, just wish I got Navi. I'm starting to like the white color a lot, didn't at first., but now it seems both classy and sporty both, esp since I'm modding it some. I never see any white CLs, they never featured a white one in any of the CL brochures either!
I called Acura this week to verify my certified warranty and it goes til July 2007 and the powertrain til July 2009 (or 100k miles).
gotta love that.
Am glad the forum is here to discuss the CL. No one I know understands why the car is so great.
