It's ALIVE!!! =)

Hi all....

The 3.5Liter TL-S is ALIVE!!!

Runs very nice. We have not had a chance to really get on it yet--still a virgin motor--but everything is in and running fine.

We will be releasing and have pricing set for this kit by the end of the month......probably sooner, since we are sitting down tomorrow to talk about it.

The one we have just completed is built for forced induction or NO2 duties (or both) and is able to handle just about anything you would want to throw at it. This block is complete with new forged pistons (10.2:1 boost friendly compression ratio), shot peened, magnafluxed and cryo treated stock rods, chamfered oil passages and a completely balanced rotating assembly.

The transmission is in the car as well and working wonderfully. We found a company who's owner was a Honda Mastertech for 8 years before opening his own tranny shop, so he is very familiar with them. These are stock transmissions that are completely built up to withstand high horsepower inputs and remain 5speed autos. There will be 2 versions of this available--one with a re-worked stock torque converter and one with a high performance aftermarket torque converter. The pricing on these wil be available in the next couple of days too!

We will be starting work on the aftercooler very soon.....

Thanks to everyone--especially Austin519--for your patience.

I'd love it if Acura would let me cover the cost difference in a built tranny when mine explodes instead of giving me another timebomb.

Congratulations! That's great news for all concerned. But I have one question. Does your engine have to be broken in again now?

ratios sound like a good idea, our gears are a bit tall.

Awesome! but isn't the stock compression 10.2:1 ?

I would have thought 9:1 would be a bit more boost friendly?

mattg,

It will be a little bit until we get the car to the dyno, but give us a little time.

kHmER Co,

For a bottom end build up like this one, it will be a bit more than $2500

JaDia4,

Yes, the motor is fresh from the machine shop, so a little break in will be necessary.....about 1000 miles or so.

typeR,

Thanks--I will ask tomorrow to see what kind of options there are. We are working on a couple of different angles right now.

Thanks again to everyone!!!! This has been fun and we are looking forward to offering these to everyone interested.

Dean

SiGGy,

No....with the MDX block and Type S heads, the static compression is 10.8:1. We lowered it to 10.2:1 to make it happier at higher boost levels and still leave some really nice drivability.

Dean

PS: we had a 300WHP Civic Si at 10PSI----stock motor, compression 10.2:1

Dean,

Just a suggestion, although I'm sure you guys are business folks as well, but maybe you could package a tranny (of choice)and the upgrade together. For a lower price than seperate of course

ahh... cool.

Thanks for the explanation.

Of course longevity would be my worry boosting 10.2:1 on stock internals on a civic.

Thanks again everyone....

SiGGy,

That Civic was boosted since new (4+ years) and never had any problems at all.......well, ok--a slight traction problem, but still.

nice, all of the daily driven ones I have seen always seen to blow up in a year or so. 9+ I have seen now. However they were all putting 12k miles+ /yr on it too.

Guess you guys are doing something right or maybe leaving your boost at 10psi all the time...

SiGGy,

40,000 + miles--daily driven at 10PSI all day, every day....the car is a beast to say the least......maybe we are doing something right?

CLS2001_97124,

Exactly. I will be keeping everyone in the loop on the Tranny--have no fear....pricing will be happening very soon.

Dean.

What length rods did you use? I assume you used the MDX crank. Since you said they were shot-peened, I assume you are using stock rods (either MDX or CL-S) with custom pistons. I want to know because I am interested in figuring out the rod-ratio you have in this motor - gives me an idea of what type of power-band to expect.

Thanks!

allmotor_2000,

If I remember correctly, they are the stock MDX rods.

Okay... this will be interesting to see in the dyno. The CL-S with light mods makes a lot of power from 5.5K to 7.5K - this motor should have a LOT of low-end grunt - but I am curious about top-end power (NA, that is). I am sure when you throw in a blower or turbo it should kick some butt!!

Good job...

Geez... So now instead of comparing HP numbers with the CLS and G, we're now moving over to motor size comparisons.

You guys crack me up...

There IS a displacement different between the two engines Well we no longer have to worry about that
