Its about time I posted...

Hello, my name is Brandon. I am a 25 year old engineer from Santa Barbara, CA. I have owned a black 2001 CL Type-S for about 3 months. I have also read this forum for about the same length of time. This is a great forum full of great people. I was holding off on posting until I got a major mod to the car. Well I have had the piaas installed for awhile, but I just got the weapon-r dragon intake. And hopefully soon, I will have springs and sways installed. Here is a link to my car pics and the intake pics.

http://www.geocities.com/code3smith/car.html

Sorry about all of the shadows, lots of trees at work. Anyway I just wanted to introduce myself and hope that I am welcomed to the family =) If you have any questions for me or my car, feel free to ask. I also took pictures of the intake install, incase anyone is having a hard time with it.

Any comments on the intake?

Was it made for the CL-S?

Any performance comments on it?

Very nice ride!

The CAI would be a good next step. You could use the Weapon X one, or order one from Xephyr @ www.xephyrperformance.com

He is a fellow member who is making these for us and shipping them out. Just a thought, check them out and maybe support a fellow member!

The intake was not a custom job. It was ordered from www.importuniverse.com specifically for the CL type-s. It was on sale for 165, which included the filter. It was relatively easy to install. There is definatly a little more kick when the car hits VTEC, which I do quite frequently. It has a mean ass sound also. Right now there is a low level hum at idle, but they forgot to ship they universal bracket to mount it. So I figured once it is mounted, that would help. I am also considering putting a small strip of dynomat or something on the underside to help absorb some of the vibration. But none the less, it sounds amazing. And it looks great under the hood. I was going to hold out for the CAI guy, but honestly, I can say I dont think it will make much of a difference. Reason being that I tipped the filter down into the hole where the airbox used to reside, and it doesnt get warm there at all. I have been driving it heavily for 2 days now, and everytime I stop, I check it, and its always cool there. The intake has a heat shield of its own, the battery resides between it and the engine, thus helping block alot of the engine heat. This is a must get mod, and a very cool, not expensive place to start. I hope this helps.

Guys,

I'm confused. What he has looks like a short CAI or some type of air intake. Yet several of you have suggested that he might consider a CAI - doesn't he already have one? Or would this fit "over it"...

Also, what % tint is on this car?

Now this is the type of newbie we like. First post comes with pics. We don't like having to host a talk show online on whether or not you actually have the mods. (we all know who I'm talking about )

------------------
Please have a crane drop on my car so I have to buy a new CL-S. But wait till I'm not in the car. Thanks

MikeS 18 - Code3Smith already has the air intake system. I was replying to Jonny Blaze's question that he posed in his reply.

Welcome aboard.
Man, what a shine! I need sunglasses just to check out your pics.
The intake adds some grunt you say. Thats another benefit because even if it didn't it just looks great tucked under the hood.

Let me suggest that when you get your springs, that you be careful how far you park front in.

I gotta say that I am leaning more and more toward the short ram than the CAI. I agree that the air that the short ram is pulling is probably pretty cold in the first place and that just being less restrictive will help a good bit. Plus, there are many advantages to the short ram in terms of maintenance and not having to worry about ordering the hydrolock guard. Plus, who knows what AEM is going to try and charge for their intake--I couldn't believe today when I saw the price for a CAI for the Celica GTS---319$! That's a lot of money for a piece of pipe and a filter.

Black/black CL Type S Comptech springs, headers. Soon to have Konis and Comptech sway bars. PIAA 19169, Solaris high beams. Potenza RE730's 225/45/ZR17
...And I wonder where my money goes!

I also removed the piece down below in the fender. I dont know what its called, but it was a closed box with 2 inlet pipes that came up into the engine compartment where the OEM airbox was located. With that big piece removed, there is a straight path to the same place where a CAI would reside. Thus all of the air still passes through to the short intake.

hey code 3, you stated that air has a direct shot to the filter. if driving in rain do you think water/mud/dirt etc would enter engine department? hoping not i like the simplicity of it. also what type of filter is used?

Welcome to the board and great post!! I like your car too, great shine to it. Black is so sweet when it's clean. The intake looks awesome too. I have the Weapon-R F1 Carbon intake for my car and I love it, especially the sound. Anyway, welcome

In regards to questions about whether or not water will get to the intake. I dont think so IMO. Even though I removed that peice down underneath, there is still the cheap plastic panels that protect the area down below for the most part.
