Introducing

...Newbie here.

I bought a Silver '03 Type S Six-Speed this weekend. I'm really happy with it...it's by far the most "well-rounded" car I've owned so far.

Previous rides:
'87 Dodge Ramcharger
'99 Mustang GT
'02 Corvette Z06

I'll post some pics when I get them.

I'm also a little curious to know some responses about a couple things that came on my car. It has aftermarket mufflers/tips and a cold air intake. They are the ones that you can purchase directly from a dealership. I'm guessing I'm getting maybe 5 rwhp from the cold air intake and 2 or 3 rwhp from the mufflers perhaps. We'll see

Nice choice. Yea its probably the comptech icebox and the comptech axleback exhaust. The icebox dynoed 10 hp I beleive. You are pretty close with those estimates thou

The Z06 hydroplaned a few weeks ago and introduced itself to a concrete column. Although the damage didn't look very bad, it ended up beign totaled because the frame was slightly bent in a location where it couldn't be fixed.

I thought about what to get as a replacement at length, and decided that since the C6 is coming out soon I'm going to hold out for one of those. In the meantime I wanted something that was still decently fast, but reliable and comfortable. It was either this or the G35 coupe, but since the G35 coupe can only be had brand new for sticker right now, I opted for this. The only thing I absolutely dislike about this car is the FWD. Otherwise, the seats, the refinement...the whole package in general is top notch.

well at least you have realized it's FWD ... i think you are too used to talking about you corvette, because you kept saying "rwhp" in your earlier post.

LMAO!!! Hehe, yes, I'm painfully aware that I now own a FWD car. I never even thought about the rwhp thing...I'm so used to having a car that's RWD that I never even thought I would write "fwhp."

You'll get used to it

My CLS 6spd is my first FWD car (20 years driving experience). It's not noticable when you're just cruising around, but I do notice the difference if I'm pushing the car to it's limits. I've adjusted, but still miss RWD on occasion.

It's kind of interesting to see someone switch over to the CLS from the Z06. I'm looking to buy a Z06 once the C6 comes out (figure by then the prices for used Z06 will have fallen quite a bit).

BTW: Congrats on your excellent choice of vehicles

Congrats and welcome You made a great choice, Car and Driver said the 6MT CL-S is the best FWD car they've ever driven. Now start modding

Some responses, in order

I plan on keeping the CLS for at least a couple years (at least that's the plan for now )

I switched to this from the Z because I decided that I wanted to wait until the C6 comes out and a) get another C5 Z06 for dirt cheap or b) get a C6 Z06 to replace the CLS. We'll see how it goes! The Z06, for the $$, is abolutely the best performance value on the market. The car is just amazing. I'm dying without the Heads-Up-Display, by the way.

Pics will come sometime or another...I need to find a friend with a digital camera

Mods? I'm not sure I'll be doing much of that. Import mods seem fairly pricey in comparison to domestic ones. Then again, I'm mainly talking out of my ass right now since I haven't begun the research. But my Mustang was very inexpensive to mod as far as general car mod costs go. The vette was a different story.

I did go to comptech's web page, however, and saw the screw-type blower. I wouldn't mind having one of those, hehe. It seems like the price is a little steep for such a small hp gain, though. I don't know if y'all are into comparisons, but my Mustang had about the same hp more or less as this car in stock form, only much more torque. When a supercharger was bolted onto the stang, though, expected hp increases were in the ballpark of 100+ (230 rwhp-ish to 350 hp-ish), whereas with the supercharger for our car the expected gain is around 55 fwhp, as stated on their web page at least. For a charger that's more expensive than the one for the mustang for a wide margin, that seems like a pretty expensive deal. I would think, also, that application of full exhaust would yield somewhere in the ballpark of 20 fwhp, which would seem like a better deal than the supercharger. But like I've said, I still need to do some looking.
