Insurance went up 300%
My insurance company found my 3 tickets and seriously jacked up my rates. I used to pay around $1,400/year. That's gone up to $4,600.
This is all still under my parents policy (even though I dont' live at home anymore) I'm 21, live in an apartment, and have a full time job.
Any suggestions? Or basically do I have to suck up and pay it.
I shopped around a little online and couldn't find anything better and that was with minimal comprehensive coverage and $1,000 deductables.
Selling the CL is out of the question because my rates wouldn't change much even if I was driving a Civic. Also I still owe $18k on the CL and I'm sure I'd get less than that for it on trade in.
Guess it's time to get a 2nd job! An extra $600 a month would be nice. Any suggestions?

I guess the V1 in your sig didn't do its job protecting you.
Why'd it take so long for them to find three tickets? Here in Jersey if they even smell a ticket their all over you in no time.

Wow.. With all due respect, thanks for making me feel better about my $1800 a year premium..
I would suck it up and get a night job. Just kill it for the next month or two working like a chimp to take care of your insurance bill. Trust me, I know how you feel

I got the V1 AFTER the 3rd ticket.
All of the tickets were for 72-74 in a 55. Real horseshit if you ask me. No one around here goes much slower than those speeds on the highways during the afternoon before rush hour.
I haven't been pulled over since July. Guess it takes 3 years for the tickets to go away right?
The only reason they found the tickets this time was because the Insurance company is changing and the branch I was covered under is only doing commercial insurance now so I got switched and my record was checked.
The new rates don't start until May. Guess its time to go back to bartending at night.

Try calling insurance companies. From my experience those online quotes suck. They only give you a general idea. If you call progressive up you can probably get a better rate.

Progressive's online rate was $2,300 for 6 months or $2,000 if I pay upfront. That is for minimal comprehensive coverage with a $1000 deductable. It is looking like the best deal really is with my parents. SHIIIIIIIIT. I'll start calling Monday.

OK - I didn't tell you this, but here's a sneaky way around it.
Put the car in someone else's name (they CANNOT have the same home address as you, or you will not be covered). Pay that person your premium.
You can basically lend anyone your car and they are coveredunder your policy, as long as they don't live with you. Make sure there is plenty of liability ins., as this person is assuming liability for you and your car. Is this legal? Probably not, but if you're smart about it, you'll be OK. I know a couple of people who did this, and nothing ever happened. Unfortunately, this may be your best bet.

Working = Enough to pay 1/2 my rent ($685) + Car payment ($430) + Utilities ($150) + Cell phone ($60) + Credit Cards ($150-250) + Food ($200) + Insurance ($383)
Leaves me with about $200 cash each month. Which is why a second job that makes $400-$500 a month would be nice. Bartending 2 nights a week would easily do that for me.

damn, I know with State Farm my tickets have nothing to do with my insurance rate...
My agent is also MOD friendly...as long as I have all my receipts, if anything happens to the car it is covered... NOT PRO-RATED..
I pay something like 864 a YEAR for FULL COVERAGE 250 deduct..
But I am 27 yrs old.
Sounds like Stephen is going to be missing some SC2 if he gets another job...

I'm gonna call State Farm. The only problem is this girl I used to work with (& sleep with ) had State Farm and they were a real pain in the ass to pay for her claim. She got rear ended by a guy with no insurance and it took like 4 months to get her money.

Try Erie Insurance
They're rated I think as the #1 insurance group for customer satisfaction by JD Power. Their prices are pretty good too but they might not take you with the 3 tickets against you right now...
I have Traveler's insurance and I was able to get my premium down from $2000/year (Progressive) to $1200/year by switching to Traveler's. No change in the coverage either (I think I have a standard 300k/100k, $500 deductible, $250 comprehensive, $5000 medical and some other junk like towing and car rental reimbursement).

Hm I should look into that LiQiCE. I have my homeowner's ins through them... wonder if they'd give me a discount for piggybacking car ins as well.
I pay $1850/yr right now w/ Geico living in South Baltimore city as a 27/single/Male.

If I dumped the CL I would lose so much money. I still owe 18-19k on the car and wouldn't get anywhere near that much for it with 60k miles on it. I might get 15k. I can bartend 1 night on the weekends and make enough to cover it. I think i'll be straight.
I'm gonna shop around as well. I'm sure I could drop that $1,000.
