Insurance rates

This probably should go into "Ramblings" but I wanted to keep it within the CL community.

I was wondering how much all the peeps under 25 pay for insurance becuase reading some posts on the site and it seems most of you are getting way riped off.

I'll start it off...

State Farm...Full Coverage....$500 deductable and I pay around $1200 a year for my 2001 CL-S

I pay around 140 per month (round 1600 per year), 500 deductible. Full coverage, more than the minimum amounts. Uninsured motorist is recommended (good when you get rear ended and the one at fault has no insurance) it happens.

25; liability only... $70/month with Progressive.

Full coverage was going to be about $180 for me...so F*ck that!

I think it depends heavily on where you live and your driving record.

I have no accidents and a few tix on my record, last ticket over 2 years and no points.

I pay a ridiculously high amount for insurance...IMO.

When I got quotes about a year ago...they were mostly higher then what I would have qualified with my current insurance carrier.

I don't know what I am doing wrong but I really want to have full coverage but just can't afford that much per month.

Glad you guys are talking about this, i'm in the market for some new insurance myself.
28 - no tickets in 5+ yrs, no wrecks in 8+ yrs. Garaged, nice neighborhood, autolock (for clutch) alarm etc.
Looking for $500 deductable, and full coverage.
Shopped for quotes online recently and got a few for like 4 G's a year. Only one that I remember was do-able was esurance at 180 a month. Did I get shitty quotes because I didn't call any of the companies direct? Also they did list type-s as a whole different model when I was looking. More $$$ for the S.
I should be paying less, or I want to anyway.
Should I get on my gf's insurance her record is great her insurance is cheap but we don't technically live together, does that matter?
Should I keep shopping around for quotes?
Btw I pay 200 a month currently -AIG full coverage.

I spoke with a lady at Progressive for like an hour how they determine rates and they can screw you anyway you want. My family grew up in a poor area and my rates were fairly average about $85 a month with no tickets and no accidents when I only had my CL.

I moved out to a much nicer neighborhood and my rates actually went up $10 a month and still no tickets or accidents. I got curious and this is when I called this Progressive lady.

She was EXTREMELY blunt and gave me insight in the insurance world. Insurance companies can always find a way to keep rates high in any neighborhood.

You live in a high income neighborhood, she told me "well there are nicer cars in this area and also a high concentration of SUVS, therefore if an accident occurs, the cost of the accident is going to be much higher due to people in the area being able to afford high expense cars" That sentence isn't verbatim but it shows you the gist.

Next, if you live in a low income neighborhood the answer is pretty obvious. If you get into an accident, there is a higher likelihood of the person to not have insurance. Also, higher crime, higher possibility of break in, etc..

Now I pay $1,450 every 6 months for my 01 CL-S, 04 G35X, and 2008 TL. But theG35X, my lady slid on ice and had a $12,000 accident about a year ago so that's adding about $200 on every six months.

Polls like this have virtually no meaning unless you have the exact same demographic profile... location, age, marital status, driving history, credit history (if appl.), etc.

And SlickShiftNall6 I wasn't aware you could be added to a gf's insurance.

Also, please don't go cheap on insurance when it comes to property damage. My fiancee had a 2002 CL-S and got hit head on 2.5 years ago when the car was worth about $18,000 according to the insurance company that totaled the car.

Well the girl who crossed the double yellow lines only had Safe Auto with 10K in property damage. At the time we had Geico and went through them to get the 18K total out price. But in turn, they went and sued Safe Auto and then Safe Auto went after the girl for the other $8,000 because her coverage was so low.

An extra $15 or $20 a month to raise that property damage isn't such a bad idea.

Certain companies will allow it while others won't. We are with Geico again and there doesn't have to be a legal partnership for them to allow two people to be on the same insurance policy.

Actually, I think the majority of companies DON'T allow gfs/bfs/fiance(e)s. Like you were thinking, there has to be a legal contract between the two people.

Wow, way to much. But don't forget that there are other things on the insurance quote besides deductible.

Personal liability, I have 100/300K. And property damage, I have 50K.

Besides that, I have none of the other fru fru add ons (rental insurance, roadside assitance, income reimbursement, funeral expenses, etc..) besides the necessary medical which is a 5k minimum.

Bump the $500 to a $1,000 deductible and you will save that $500 in a two year span.

As much as I hate Suze Orman, everyone should read this little article by her about insurance.

^ I hate Suze Orman's eyes and I hate insurance!

I got a couple of quotes and Progressive (who I have been with for 6 years)...

Quoted me like $265 / month.

I feel like canceling my policy after hearing that...that's f*n ridiculous!

That is why I have always thought of auto insurance as one of the biggest scams!

They can screw you anyway they really want....IMO

There is another member here on the board who sells auto insurance...maybe he can enlighten us some more.

But I know your zip code plays a huge factor....

Well I have been selling insurance for 16 years and I have sold insurance in many different states but currently California and I have to say that there are many factors that affect it. Its virtually impossible to compare insurance rates from different states because risk factors are different, and all things NSXNEXT said are true, some states use credit as a factor and others its illegal, some states have no fault insurance and others don't so like I said its of no use trying to compare yourself to others on this board unless you have the same situation.

If you only have liability then you shouldn't have a deductible. The deductible comes into play when you have comp & collision on your policy.

Wow I thought I was getting ripped off but some of you are really getting it in the ass! Now I am an older guy (well past 40) no accidents or tickets but I live in high crime Miami FL. Anyway I pay roughly $900 a year full coverage with $500 deductable through USAA. I shop around a few times a year for better rates but never find any. The only reason my rates are so high is because Miami is considered high theft. But nobody knows our car. This sucks. Well I'm sure it will be worse when I get a 3rd gen TL.

right now I am at 43.76 a month with a $500 deductible. Yeah thats low, but I am 30, married, and have multiple policy lines through State Farm as well for a house, jewelry(wedding rings), wifes car, etc. Back when I was 25 I was right around 65/month on this car. And this is all with a couple speeding tickets, none in the last 3 years, and a couple accidents, none my fault. There are a good amount of discounts you can get if you get an honest insurance guy, and refer lots of people to him. Matter of fact I think I am still getting a good student discount from when I was in college, I've been out 8 years now, and I drive less than 12,000 miles a year, huh, right, bought this car in April of '02 and I have 112000, boy that doesn't add up

if your 25 and you pay 1000 bucks a year but your coverage is capped at 300k with a 2 million dollar umbrella --- 1000 bucks a year isnt very high.
