Insurance Question...
Guys i had an accident a while back i was not found at fault, Right now i am not under my brothers policy but I own the car and its insured only under my brothers name to save money. Now after the accident Geico has sent me a questionaire that I must fill out to add myself to the policy, Do i have to do this? since the claim has been finished and everything was already finalized? I am not a driver under the vechile I would like to add myself but I have 8 points because of one stupid mistake and im only 20 so i think its going to be a real bitch to afford since im already paying for the car myself.
Thanks a lot

You dont need to do it. Look at it this way, lets say your brother lend the car out to a friend and he recks the car, the insurrance will still cover brother/car and will cover the driver. Will they want your brother's friend to be on the policy after the accident? I dont think so. The only risk your brother carries is the possibility of having a lawsuit against him from the second party involve in the accident.

Bad idea, if you *own* the car, hit someone and get sued. You personally are liable then...
Regardless of who owns the policy, the owner of the car is still responsible to what damages the car inflicts.

Well, SiGGy is the most right of all of you...
Technically, an insurance carrier can deny ANY claim for a vehicle that is not OWNED (meaning the title) by the policyholder. It's called a non-insurable interest. Larger carriers like State Farm will grant some exceptions for DEPENDENTS residing in the same household or away in school, but not a brother with a lot of points. Secondly, if any of you "regularly" drive someone elses vehicle and it ends up being uninsured, your OWN policy likely will not apply to that vehicle...
States vary on whether the owner's or driver's policy is primary or excess for a claim, but you run into trouble when you aren't insuring your own car...
Hate to say it, but you gotta pay to play...

The policy covering the car can be voided by the insurance company as your bother has no insurable interest in your vehicle. Co-signing a loan does not = insurable interest. No company, if they have knowledge, will pay a claim under these circumstances. You should get coverage or be prepared to pay fines etc, that will cost much more than any insurance policy.

I recommend you stay off the roads until you get a valid policy. Common Sense!!!
