installing a trailer hitch

Hey All:

I've been browsing the forum and it looks like a few members have installed a trailer hitch on their CL.

I already have a hitch but it doesn't look like there is any wiring harness... Has anybody installed the wiring portion of the hitch, or know where to connect the wires to?

Much appriciated,

Q

not sure about the CL but on the TL on the drivers side by the brake light in the trunk behind the carpet there is a harness prewired by honda for trailer wiring. You can either tap into that of go to a honda/acura dealer and get the harness tht just plugs into it

I think the CL wouldn't do to bad towing a small boat or jetski... just hit VTEC more often... I too am wondering about a trailer hitch aswell since my parents just bought a house up in Lake County and I might find myself towing a jetski once in a while.

Users manual says not more then 1000lbs and hitch weight can't be more then 10% of the total weight. Maximum load for the car is 700lbs. Pretty sad considering you can't even carry 4 full sized adults with no luggage. So subtract the weight of all occupants, luggage, and trailer tongue weight from 700lbs and you don't have much. Don't think I'd risk towing anything at all with an auto as it's gonna heat up that tranny even more. Hell my last car wasn't rated to town anything because of the high-performance engine (the manual was rated for 200lbs of towing). Buy a towing beater for $500 and don't risk damaging your Acura.

Well I did find the wiring, it's actually in the same place as the TL, behind the light on the drivers side. I think the cable just plugs into the harness...

qwerty,

I have a hitch on my CL and tow a 1000lb trailer and 4 dirtbikes with no problems, you hardly know you are pulling anything and only notice a slight difference when braking.
I bought my car with the hitch installed but I have a feeling that, as mentionned in an earlier post there may be a connector setup for this near the drivers side taillight, otherwise you simply connect from the tailight wires, any car shop will be able to do this for you.

Im sure its not much different than the TL and ive towed alot with that. It doesnt even know things are back there. I had to use D4 for the boat on the HWY, but for the 4 wheeler D5 and it never hunted for gears.

I had a cooler and towed these (but i didnt add the cooler to tow)
2000lbs

Though i only towed this a few times i still towed it.(normally i used my truck)
2200lbs+
