Installed RTEC Bypass Valve – Then removed it

As some of you know I was testing out this new “Inline Filter” by RTEC.
See this thread: http://www.acura-cl.com/forums/showt...highlight=rtec

I installed the thing last weekend and I hated it.
It made this horrible HOWLING noise at idle that was unbearable.
I only ran it on the car for two days and I had to take it off.

I did one test while it was still installed to see how much air it was drawing in during idle and WOT.
I don’t smoke, so I lit a small piece of paper towel on fire and then blew it out.
I tried to see if any of the smoke would be drawn in.

I worked the throttle from under the hood while holding the smoking paper near the bypass valve.
During idle there was NONE drawn in.
During slight throttle there was a minimal amount of smoke drawn in.
During a quick “blip” of the throttle to over 4,000 RPM there was lots of smoke drawn in the valve.

I ended up buying another AEM Bypass, but haven’t installed it yet.
I also picked up a small section of rubber hose so I can test without any Bypass at all.
I’m currently running that way with just the straight pipe.

I plan on doing the "smoke test" when/if I install the new AEM in there.

Pics of course …………………………………

It’s all about the SOUND when the hood is closed.
NOTHING sounds as sweet when the tach hits 5,000 RPM !!!
The Ice-Box looks and sounds almost like stock. I don’t want that even if it does give you an additional 1-2 HP.
The AEM system has its share of problems too.

Xephyr is still the way to go.

Here’s a few that that come to mind.

Brackets that can snap off leaving a HOLE in the side of the tube.
Filters being damaged because of placement near the splashguard hardware.
Less efficient design because of more bends.
Smaller standard filter.
More complicated to install because of the coolant connections.

And what is that ghetto clamp and piece of metal on the bottom of the tube?
