Installed my Xephyr Cold Air Intake (pics)
I figured the car was running OK for the first month and I just crossed 1,000-miles on Friday so it was time for the install.
It took about 2-hours, but I wasn’t really rushing around too much.
The “infamous” Chris Xephyr installed this sucker in my last CL, but I removed it from that car.
I had just washed the car, that is why it is all wet inside there.
I haven’t given it a road test since the install because the car is clean and I’m doing a few coats of the Z-STUFF tomorrow.
After that, I’ll be unplugging the battery for a half hour or so and then taking her out for a little HELL RIDE.
Stock box removed
Yahoo…Check out that wheel gap
Here’s an easy way to get at that rear bolt on the resonator
Resonator and all stock junk is out
Dirty filter from 10,000-miles on the RED CL
All cleaned up and oiled with the K&N cleaning kit
I’m thinking about some kind of “RAM AIR” opening here
All installed now

Hi Shawn,
Is there anything I should change on my CAI HOW-TO regarding installation for the '03? It looks the same from what you posted....

ps, Chod, fix your Comptech spring information - 1.5" front drop 1.0" rear drop. not just the vague "1-1.5 drop" it says now. Thanks.

I modified the install by putting the top air box back in, parted the lower tube at the lower side of the valve and then installed it back in through the rubber that attaches the the top box. Then I just put a ring clamp around the rubber and tube. You now can install the lid with a few cuts to it to allow for clearance. It now hids the valve and you can install the cable back onto the lid. Note DON'T make the lid air tight, the valve will no longer funtion. I am looking for a spare lid that I can make cut out tempplates to.

There MAY be a problem with the AEM intake because of the way it goes all the way past those two lines near the throttle body.
There is nowhere for that rubber insert on the AEM design to attach to without modification.
Check out these TWO photos.
2001 AUTO
2003 6-SPEED
Notice the short metal piece is gone on the 2003.
I think this only applies to the 6-Speed because of not having VSA.
AND.......
You might want to add the way I got that back resonator bolt by pulling away the inner liner.
It was MUCH easier then going in from the bottom.

AEM intake for 2003 6 Speed
Now that we have established that the 01-02 intake will not fit the 03 6-speed, are there any substitutes? When do we expect AEM to make one for the 03 6-Speed? I was was about to get the 02 intake, but i wanted to check out if it would def fit on the 03. Lucky for me i didn't get it.

I bought the RIMS from Mike (ValueTL) over on the TL website.
They were 2,400 shipped.
