Important Question

I really need to know how many of you are just like me...when you park your car in a lot, do you park away from everyone and take up 2 spots? Am I just anal for doing this, or are you all like me. Everyone makes fun of me...should I be making fun of them with there dinged up cars!!

I park away, but don't take up 2 spots. You can get a ticket for that.

I park FAR FAR away too, but taking up two spots is asking for trouble now matter how far away you are.
It tends to increase the “asshole attraction” factor.

Don’t you hate when you “underestimate” the parking flow?
You know when you park in a “safe” spot, yet come out from say an hour of shopping and the cars are now parked solid 5-spaces PAST you.
I hate that !!!!

You know...I notice that always happen. It's like a car that is parked far away seems to attact people towards it. I have that happen to me so many times. I park far away and when I get out...cars all around. As far as taking up two spaces...I live in San Jose and parking spots are small and hard to come by...so double parking is asking for scratches and dents. It's better to just park far and take up only one parking spot. I definitely agree with Shawn about the "asshole attraction".

I park far enough away to protect myself and not attract attention. I agree with everyone else, 2 spaces is a no no and you're asking for trouble.

Every time I see a car parked taking up 2 spaces, I always say, "look at that prick...who does he think he is?" You may as well put a sign on your car that says "Key Me".

I park at the end of rows as far away as possible. That way, I can only get dings on ONE side at a time!!!

I usually try to park away from people, unless I know it's going to be futile, in which case I do a really good job of parking an equal distance in between. I also try not to park next to those huge Ford Expeditions and Chevy/GMC SUVs, etc.... I see those soccer moms get out of those things (usually practically falling out because they're legs are too short and they're high off the ground) with the doors flying open without any regard to the car next to them. Grrr..... People in beater cars/trucks that probably wouldn't give 2 sh*ts if they dinged you either - I stay away from those as well.

Taking up 2 spaces is not nice though. That's asking for trouble in some places. Especially in places where parking is at a premium and hard to come by... That might even attact unwanted attention / keying from vindictive people.

I do that too but the sad thing is, I have been doing that so long that a couple people now have been following my lead (phucking mustang and explorer owners) that if i get to my lot even 5min late past 8:00 am, that out of all the phucking spaces in the lot, they choose my spot that I have been using.

On topic tho, i do that every where i park. I go the farthest away from civilization when i park.

I thought I was the only person that was anal enough to park far away from everyone else! The great thing about my girlfriend and my friends is that they have gotten used to me parking as far away from other cars as possible. I can't stand the freakin idiots who intentionally park right next to you even if you park as far away as you can! And no, I don't recommend taking up 2 spaces because more than one person will happily key your car and justify doing it because they think your a prick..

I think that there's an old thread on this that you can link to from Chod's FAQ. Pretty interesting.

At work I park in a garage and try to park next to a wall at the end so that at least if I get dinged, it'll be only on one side. I try to avoid parking next to:

old personmobile (they always have to open their doors all the way)
beater (if he/she doesn't care about his own car then why would they care about mine)
SUV (big doors, wide in space)
Camaro/Corvette/other American coupe (big doors)
In a wide open lot (like a mall) I park away from others, but not far enough away to look obvious. I agree that taking two spaces is asking for attention and a possible keying from a 14 year old asswipe.

I always try to center my car in the space so that my car is as far away as possible from the next car.

Sometimes a little voodoo magic helps.

Parking in and of itself is a pet peeve of mine. I've never understood people that wait for someone else to get out of the space and hold up traffic behind them when there are about 4000 spaces available on the upper levels or the roof, or the farthest away spaces at the outskirts of the parking lot. Why would you wait an extra 10 min to park your car (and piss me off behind you) when you can spend 2 minutes to park and maybe an extra 2 minutes to walk? But maybe that fatass has a problem with walking a few extra paces.

Zaino not only repels bugs, but repels dings (I wish)

ALWAYS park far away. I don't mind walking to insure that my baby isn't gonna get dinged or keyed.

I'm NEVER going to take up 2 spaces though. Thats definitely asking to get keyed,

when i was in high school, my friend had a junker, and he ALWAYS would look for cars that were parked far out and taking 2 spots, and he'd pull RIGHT in next to them, within inches!

Thanks for all the responses...I just wanted to see what everyone would say...it was a good subject. Oh, and by the way, I have gotten away from taking up 2 spots, I just look for the spot were only 1 car can park next to you. I'm glad there are others out there who car about thier cars. Keep up the good work!!

I actually try to park as close as possible. I figure if I'm close people will see my car, so if someone is fucking with it... it will be noticed. What I do do though is find a curb spot, so there's only a car on one side of me. If that's not a possibility, then I look for the nicest cars and park between them. I stay away from SUVs and beaters/old cars. Mini-Vans aren't too bad if you can park on their passenger side b/c I notice that the moms get all of the kids out on the driver side.... plus, those doors slide rather then opening.

All in all, if I know I'm going somewhere that's going to be crowded or parking sucks..... we take my fiance's '94 Camry

Same here. It pi$$es people off when you take two spots. I usually go for an end spot so that I can park further away in the spot so that there is no risk of a door ding from someone who might park next to me and I don't have to worry about someone parking on the other side.

Parking close also can mean that the people parked there will also be first to leave...first to come...first to be done...first to leave. I figured if you can park next to the employee cars...that would be perfect! I don't know...

I'd say two spaces is acceptable if you drive a Viper, high-end Porsche, Ferrari, Lambo, etc, or a very expensive, highly-modded Supra or other fast car.

Drive a $30k Acura? Then no.

these are some guidelines I use...

1. Never park next to a minivan or station wagon. Women usually drive these and they are notorious for letting thier doors swing freely open while they tend to the kiddies etc.

2. Never park next to another two door; unless of course it is an Acura CL . Especially beware large older american two doors...like the ford thunderbird or Lincoln Mark IV...those doors are designed to dish out some serious paint stripping, metal bending dings.

3. Always look for nice cars to park next to. BMW owners are totally anal so they are good to park next to. Audi owners are also. NEVER park next to an american pickup truck, any hyundai, and anything that looks like it hasn't been washed in a decade.

4. Always take the spot that already has a car on either side of it (not matching the descriptions above of course). Odds are you may beat them back to your car before they hav a chance to open their doors on it. If you don't do this you risk some of the vehicles I described above parking next to you while you are away.

5. Look for curb(end) spots, and park as close to it as you can without scraping up your poorly designed OEM CLS rims.

6. Never take up two spaces when you park or someone will decorate your car with their key.

7. Park at least 50 feet away/uphill from shopping carts.

thats all I got
