I'm new here... looking to stay for awhile

Hey everyone my name is Ryan, I'm buying an Aegean Blue 2003 Acura CL S6 (is that correctly abbreviated?) on Friday. This is pretty much the first big-box item I've ever financed and I'm real excited. The CL won out against my other choice, an Acura RSX Type-S... too many other kids my age drive those I was looking for something more unique and with a little more class. Not too many mods are coming... just window tint, possibly springs and maybe some 3G TL wheels and an Icebox. I am moving my roof rack over from my old car to the CL for the winter season... I drive up to the mountains every weekend to snowboard once the season starts. That pretty much sums up me I just had a couple quick questions:

1) Is the clutch supposed to spring out at you more than in most cars? I am a manager at a full service carwash; I've driven everything from 3 on the tree, 4,5,6-speeds, joystick autos, clutchless manuals with F1 paddles (on a Maserati) and the closest thing that I have found to the way this clutch is would be a late 80's Porsche 911 Turbo, except not so hard to drive. This seems like a clutch that will take me a week to fully learn.

2) I read somewhere theres only 296 Aegean Blue 6-speeds... is that accurate? I'm surprised I found it I love the color my brother has it on his TL and now we can match.

Welcome to the forum and welcome to the CL-S6 club! ABP is definitely one of the best looking colors out there, and as far as the numbers go, that sounds about right. If I remember correctly, there were only approx 230 non navi and approx 60 w/ navi. It's a pretty rare color (not as rare as a couple others, but much more rare than my SSM). The clutch is a little different, but the more you drive it, the more you'll get used to it. It looks like you've done your research, so I also must give you credit on that as well. If you can afford them (maybe down the road) I highly recommend picking up some Comptech headers (or XS, if you can pick up a good set). They will go nicely with your intake and you'll definitely feel the difference. Anyway, enjoy it and post some pics when you can!

btw, where you from?

Yeah, the clutch is different than most other cars I've driven. Takes a bit to get used to.

Production number are here: https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...8&page=3&pp=23

Read the whole thread if you want to understand where the numbers came from...

Welcome & great choice! Once u get the ice box you will want more. XS headers are a really good pick up. Some used Comptechs would be great if you dont want to pay $1150 for some new ones. Have fun with her

Welcome to Acurazine brotha!

You'll absolutely love this place it's more info on the CL than you could ever imagine, lol. Anyway about the clutch - I would recommend doing 1) the clutch dampening device (CDD) removal and 2) aluminum shifter cable bushings. These 2 mods will make your 6-speed feel WAY sportier, and feel way more like a "normal" manual transmission car, so to speak.

Oh I forgot to say where I was from... Charlotte, NC. I have a season lift pass to Appalachian Ski Mountain, so it's a lot less extreme than where you go LiquidCls6, but the parks on the east coast aren't bad.

And because someone asked, I'm paying just under 17500 from CarMax with about 40k miles. The RSX I was looking at was 16900 and had shitty ass wheels on it, plus everyone at that dealership were being a bunch of sketchballs it didn't make any sense at all to not go with the CL which is what I was originally looking for when I started searching... they had to transport the CL from Greenville, SC up to the Charlotte CarMax location that was the closest one that I liked.

Pictures will be up soon hopefully, I'm driving it off the lot tomorrow!

The coolest things I've figured out so far is:
1) The right side mirror points down when you put the car in reverse.
2) The sound of the engine when youre getting on it.
3) The fancy little compartment above the radio... I don't know what it is, but it's really cool.
4) The seats power forward to let people in the back.
5) The auto-dimming mirror feature.

$17,500 is kinda high IMO.

Did you already purchase the car?

I think that would have to do more on credit vs. high cost...i paid just around the same price for mine and it had same amount of miles...plus i have not up to par credit and i traded a car in....so for 40k and $17,500 i think thats a fair deal...depending on the area your in...and he and i are on the east coast...

nice car again man... cool pic...try to get some cool angles of it...

yall forgot to also add...the 2 mem for the seats... def makes a dif on the long drives....

on the seat moving up for back seat riders....its cool till the seat moves backwards and almost crushes the person (if your tall like some of my friends) if you dont stop it before...lol...hopefully that doesnt happen to you man..

Well I'm not sure, but I think CarMax usually puts a small premium on their cars just for being a reputable dealer that triple-inspects their cars and a bunch of other things. It was less about the price and more about the 30-day warranty, the awesome atmosphere, and the honest salespeople (they make a set commission). The salesmen at CarMax have their computer pointed towards you and you see everything they see no "Umm... let me check with my manager" a hundred times to consult on how they can cheat me.

All 8 of my financing options also were all right in front of me, whereas other dealerships pick one and give it to you. When I was looking at the RSX they were saying there was no way they could give me anything better than 18% and couldn't take less than 4000 down because of my lack of long-time credit. I told them they were shit outta luck because I found another dealer that would give me 12% and only 2000 down (I made that up). He consulted with his manager then came back with 11.5% and 2000 down. CarMax gave me 10% with 2000 down... I know those rates aren't amazing, but I only have 2 years of credit and haven't ever bought anything big before. I'll just have to bite the bullet, you have to get credit at some point in your life... In 18 months I'm going to refinance with a credit union.
