If the current RL only had 50 more HP :( (need ideas on a car 4 dad)
Hey guys, my dad is shopping for a 4dr car and needs something comfortable and reliable ( NO domestics). So he's put me in charge of finding a good deal on a car for him. He doesn't want a TL-S b/c the ride is too firm and says there is too much pwr in that car 4 him lol. So basically he needs a luxurious comfortable car. So far the Lexus GS300 is at the top of the list although I wish we could get an RL b/c we can save a few bucks. But the RL isn't as quick as I'd like it (My EX-V6 will kill it)
Plus, I'll prob buy the car from him at the end of the lease and do it up so I need some suggestions on what other car I should loook at. It has to be 4dr, non-domestic, and under $45K, and can do 0-60 w/in 7-7.7 sec.. But just to leave you tantilizing on why I like the RL so much:
DAMN, doesn't that look good

Why not the Accord then? Either the 6th Gen or maybe wait a little and see what the 7th Gen has to offer. The 6th Gens are priced well under 45K and does 0-60 in about the time you're looking for.

I agree with Erock, Audi A6 2.8 or 2.7T
I've had that car for 2 days, while waiting on the A4 delivery...
Let my pops take it for a spin and he loved it...Saying, it's a perfect ride....

I think iyts b/w the GS300 and the RL rite now. I'll keep u guys posted
P.S. My dad works for Honda so driving a 7th gen Accord wouldn't be anything special 2 him lol Also, my neighbor has an Audi A6 and one of his friends drive a 5series. As u can prob tell, my dad wants 2 stand out and cop somthing different, thus the GS300 or Rl since no one he knows has one lol Thanks guys

I would take the RL if it was my money, looks better then the GS 300 my opinion of course. I think RL is quieter than GS 300.
Facts Turning radius is 36.1 ft for RL 37.1 feet for GS 300. Also the RL is wider. More torque 231@4800 RPM for RL 220@3800 for GS 300. RL comes with everything HID memory seats ...except NAV, this year nav comes with onstar. GS 300 HID, memory seats all extra.

IMHO
he should get a Lexus, GS 300 would be a great choice
if he is looking to spend at most 45k then he should get the one of the following cars
GS 300
ES 300
BMW 5 series
sidemarker

ON topic tho.......Tell him to get a used LS400. Maybe between 98-2002. My father loves his LS430 and he babys it more than i do my cls. OR like everyone else said...get a GS300 or used GS400. I would wait b4 buying an RL until the new redesign. My dealer keeps hyping it up like it's the next coming.

Acura is so notoriously S L O W with upgrading known issues. The RL is a beautiful car with a dog slow engine. How can they pack a tank like that with a measly V6? I love the RL, but EVERYONE knows it can't compete engine-wise with the LS430 and the Q45, yet they are waiting YET ANOTHER YEAR to slap a V8 in that puppy. My dealer said 300+ HP will be available with the V8....I'll believe it when I see it!!!

I wouldn't recommend the Audi A6 if he wants a reliable car...the 2.8 is slow and fairly reliable, but the 2.7T is HORRENDOUSLY unreliable. How do I know? My neighbor has an S4 and I own (still, unfortunately...for sale if anybody likes a lemon) a 2001 Audi Allroad 2.7T Quattro. Both our cars have been nothing but trouble with the engine.
A truly special machine is the BMW 530i. He'd be sold the first time he drove it.

My suggestion is wait for 2 more months and see how the 7th generation Honda Accord is. Acura 3.5RL is kinda outdated now both mechanically and inside-features, plus it is overpriced.

Thanks for the great assesment everyone
Ok, Now we're looking at the RL, GS300 and the 530. But 2 be honest w/you, I think my dad is going 2 go w/the one w/which he can get the best deal. He wants spomething upscale but not expensive (isn't that an oxymoron lol). He's kinda tied up moneywise at the moment and figures he'll get something even nicer in abt 3yrs (Def. German

Well as much as I like the RL, it is a rip. For the features and power you get, it should be about $34000. Now people are recomending the Audi A6 2.8 and then somebody said that engine isn't reliable. Well, Audi doesn't make the 2.8 anymore! The replaced it with a more powerful, 3.0. I don't know about reliablity though. As for my recomendation, I think a Jaguar S-Type would be great. The 2003 model is greatly imporved and not everybody has an S-Type. IMO, they are a great alternative to the ever so popular A6, E-class, 5-series. Plus jaguar's reliabilty is not as bad as it once was.

Thanks 4 the great responses guys. Well heres the situation so far, my dad works at a honda dlrship and knows quite a few folks from other dlrships (i.e. acura, lexus, nissan etc.) We're working on the BMW and GS300 prices but rite now, a close friend of my dad who works at Acura can get us an RL w/ nAvigation for $1K under invoice (they're really tryna move them out lol). Lets just say that for relatively a few bucks more a month compared 2 a TL-S w/ Navi, my pops can drive an RL w/navi
My dad is mad old school and loves caddy but hates their relibability so the RL is closet 2 having the most lux ride lol
p.s. I can't get u these prices if any of u fellow members wanted an RL, but I can still get u great deals, all I will say is that if u are in NY and need an Acura, my dad's friend (who is also my friend) will give u a price no other dlr can match. Plus my friend works at a an Acura Dlrship that is a precision dlr (highest accolade given 2 a dlrship for customer satisfaction and sales volume)
p.p.s. The TL/TLS does not have as much wiggle room as say an RL, and thus that is why we can drive an RL 4 a few bucks more
