Idle 10 minutes after battery reconnect?

I can't find it now in search but i know I saw this.

Member says after battery is disconnected for whatever reason, new battery installation or not....that upon reconnect:

For 10 minutes after startup:
1. Do not touch gas pedal at all.
2. Do not put into gear.

Poster claimed (I'm paraphrasing) the computer was "talking" to the battery and resetting all the fuel/air/other adjustments and that setting for 10 minutes made it all good.

Anyone know of this? Is it practiced at any Acura shops? Jens are you still here?

Good idea. While your waiting you can change this to kill the time.

Naw I think I'll stick with the mods who put up the Ultimate FAQs Answers.
Just found it.

Things to do after replacing the battery?
Connect the new battery, start the car, and let it idle for about 10 minutes.
Do NOT give the car any gas - you want the computer to calibrate initial mappings

what was it that you installed there, Bob? (i'm assuming you did hence the need for an idle reset.)
on a sidenote, go to the SD thread in meets. you know where it is. you missed the last mini-meet we had.

well i changed batterys a while ago. Had to keep car moving and Sears was out of stock on Optima so i settled on a DieHard. I saw that FAQ 10 mins after that and have been wondering ever since. Not sure Chod updates it. Would like to see what Jens did when he was in the AcShop.

I thought to make it to Chods FAQ it had to be solid.

Did you guys make it HINs and did you arrange my meeting with several of the models?

It also says there a K & N filter will give you + 4 mpg. A stock filter would have to be mighty dirty for this to be true. Que the voodoo dancer!

I've gotten better mpg by changing my driving habits... I didn't notice any change in mpg after the K&N, but I could go thru my log book and chrunch the numbers to be sure...

Chodthewacko https://acurazine.com/forums/members/chodthewacko-10282/ can explain more about his FAQ's...

I haven't updated the FAQ in years.
To make the FAQ basically it just needs to be stated somewhere on the forums, and not rebutted by anyone. Not the most accurate way to gather info, but hey, what can you do.

I don't recall that 10 minutes thing, and when I replaced my battery I didn't do that.

Okay, since you piqued my curiosity, I did a search of old threads,
and if you just search for 'battery' and 'minutes' you come up with several threads recommending 10 minutes to reprogram the ecu, and in fact one of them says it is quite important to idle at least 10 minutes for it to reprogram correctly.

One of the threads has a user claiming it only takes the ecu 15 seconds to reprogram.

FAQs is super easy to use and very organized.
Maybe the part about it being "stated somewhere in the forums and not rebutted" by anyone could be posted at the top of the front page of FAQs?

When it comes to using "search", i must be some kind of lameoid. Regarding the 10 minutes idle I cannot get it to the articles you mentioned.

according to the Helms Acura service manual '01 - '03 CL page 11-170 after disconnecting the battery...

1) turn off all electrical items

2) start engine and hold at 3000rpm in park or neutral until radiator fan comes on or until coolant temp reaches 194 degrees

3) after fan comes on let car idle for 5 minutes

As opposed to Chad FAQs stating:
Connect the new battery, start the car, and let it idle for about 10 minutes.
Do NOT give the car any gas - you want the computer to calibrate initial mappings

Can we get a consensus on this? Jens?

this all sounds like a bunch of B.S. When my battery died because I left my keys turned to start, I just got a jump, and started driving. everything works normal.

After a battery change or jump, I just get in and drive. Too impatient to wait.

Yeah, Jens doesn't work at PAA anymore, he moved back to the fatherland awhile ago, but still checks in from time to time (like once or twice a year)...

You can think it's BS but you're wrong...I'd put my trust in the actual Helms manual. Also if you disconnect your battery your driver side window will lose the auto up/down feature unless you reset it manually

my auto up/down worked fine. Why does ECU needs to be reset when you replace your battery? What if you don't reset it, what are the bad things that can happen??
I just went through my owner's manual (section when it talks about geting a jump start), nowhere does it mention that you need to wait 10 minutes after a jump start.
