I love my stone headers but.......
it has some resonance around 1800-1900 Rpm besides that I love the extra power up in the high rpms . I'm hoping that by getting exhuast it will kind of cover up the slight noise . Does anyone else with stone headers have this problem ?
I Quote fender4:
Those shape edges and actual steel ridges are natural outcome of mendrel bending the pipes. Those, may contribute some unwanted resonance sound. I made sure to remove those on my headers and I do not have a resonance sound.
This was noted in the installation instruction posted here.
Inside the header flange tubes was a sand and metallic mix of some kind, cleaned that out, found after sticking my finger in the top 90 degree bend,, a shape edge and a actual steel ridge that needed filing off,...there was two millimeters of scrap stuck to this ridge,.. it was on four outside pipes,, the center ones didn't have a ridge,, they looked like one peice and not a two piece pipe like the out side ones"
This was noted in the installation instruction posted here.
It's just a sound that come on around that rpm range and it doesnt stop when its warmed up . I guess i'll just wait to get exhuast and hopefully that will cover it up or something . Shit on me shit on me
It comes from the unfinished edges where the pipes meet on the inside of the welds, OBX has the same construction and sound.
The Comptechs are smoothed out and welded internally and externally and hence no niose.

Wasn't it kind of assumed that they were the same? They were shipped from the same town in the midwest or something.
I'd have to "hear" the before and after before I believe the "just file it down" excuse for resonance. If that is the case, why haven't more people taken them off, smoothed things down, and put them back on. I bet a speed shop would do that for $150. You'd still be hundreds less than Comptech.
I need proof. Sorry Nash. And if you did that to yours why didn't you tell everyone to do it?

blackmagiCL_S,
First, Stone Headers are not the same as OBX. they came from totally different manufacturing source. JFYI, Shipper/warehouse is the same though!!. You will see its name on the shipping label of the box.
Second, this is my guess about the source of resonance noise, I could be wrong.
Third, filing the the sharp edges was noted on the inspection/installation instructions ( step C) posted here: http://www.acura-cl.com/forums/showt...=stone+headers
Finally, fender4 filed out those edges, let us see if he has resonance sound.

Sonor, no they are not from the unfinished edges at the weilding points. Those are already filled and smoothed.
Inside the pipes and as an outcome of mendel bending the pipes, you may find like 2-3 mm sharp edges/ridges inside the pipe at the point where the pipe is bent. This may contribute to a resonance sound.
