my dad wont pay for insurnace on a bike and told me i "coudln't afford it" so im curious as to how much it would run me
also, i know insurance is paid every 6 months or something, but is it possible to have a bike on insurance for just 2 months?

I'm getting a Honda 600rr this summer, and from what I've read on some bike forums, to be insured by State Farm, you have to have your car insured with them.
Also, here's a link to thread that talks about people's insurance rates...check here and compare. (Although I'm sure your's would be high since your 17).

i followed that link and i thought insurance would be in the thousands but those people said that they were only paying $20-$40 more then they would be otherwise, which means that its somewhat in reach if i can afford the bike
ill call them tomarrow see what they say

Typically with a bike they charge you a lot for the first year you are insured and then it drops to like 30-40% of that cost once you make it through your first year. They figure that if you don't kill yourself in the first year you'll probably be OK.
The bike you arelooking at is a responsible bike for a first time rider, however, so it may not be tood bad. Also, look into taking a safety course--the insurance companies love that.

When I lived in MA, I paid ~400 for my EX-500(Ninja). Keep in mind - I could only use the bike part of the year. Here in FL, I pay 900 per year on my ZX-7R. I also have been riding for 12 years, took MSF and am over 25 but I have way more than min. coverage.

first take the msf course for a 10% discount then call around for quotes, it should not be too bad. the less fairings and cc's you have the cheaper it will be. Take a look over at www.tristatesportbikes.com they have alot of good info. Good Luck
its like $3,000 new and im sure i could pick it up for $1,500 but im not even sure im going to be able to do it because even if i can afford the insurance on the bike my parents, who are paying for my car insurance i belive $1800 a year, would pull my car insurance cause thats how badly they dont want me to have a bike
