The eBay auction above has brand new headers for $975 plus $35 for shipping. And no, it's not my auction.

I'm getting them with my first commission check.

I don't give a damn how much they cost, I'm getting them!

Used meaning they were installed, correct?

Depends on how long they've been installed.

Usually once headers have been on a car for a while, they can get brittle from the heat. Taking them off and bolting them on another car is a lot of stress on them and can easily crack something.

As much as I'd love to get a set of Comptech headers for $500-600, it's not worth it if there is a good chance they won't be any good once installed.

Yes, this is the range I would consider a (6-8 months old) used Comptech: $500 is my bid...

$1 would be a good price if it included shipping.

Not trying to flame you Nashua...you are not gonna get Comptechs for less than $800 even if they are used. The headers are stainless steel...so, the idea that they may be "brittle" after any length of use is absurd. I can understand if they were mild steel headers.....with ceramic coat..but they aren't. Unfortunately, the price of comptechs is around $1100-1300 new. It's like buying a 68' Mustang for $5K back in 1968....and selling it now for $5k...and you say WTF!!! It's used!!! But that is still a bargain considering the price of some of them are at $20K.

If you're willing to take the chance of spending $600 on used headers fitting onto your car properly, go right ahead. I'm not, but maybe that's because $600 means a lot more to me (full-time student).

The set I (and Nashua et al) was going to bid on turned out to be more like 18months used, not 6-8months old, and because of that I retracted my bid.

Why you want to insist they are more expensive than they are is beyond me.

Crippen is selling his and right now they're around $500-600. Then again, as I said, they've been used for around 18months so to me they're too old to be worth even $500.

And besides, you really don't want to get into the whole "price of Comptech headers" issue with me - headers should cost no more than $800 for ANY $30k car unless it's gonna give me a fucking blowjob too.

$1250 can kiss my ass. I'll wait for Greddy and that other company that are supposedly producing headers for our car. It's not an issue of life and death. If I wanted horsepower so bad I'd just get nitrous and still wind up cheaper than Comptech's headers and with more power gain.

Don't flame my sh!t, but I just sold mine for $925 shipped. They were used for a couple of months, and pristine.

Just an FYI - Jim

Good for you!

Some people are willing to pay a lot for them - isn't that obvious? If people weren't, they wouldn't sell any at $1250, but they do, so they can charge that much. Duh.

Alright...find a header for a v6 that is under $1K....you need to understand that we are not buying 4 cylinders...and if you think you are going to get cheap headers from Greddy...it is a PIPE DREAM.....more power to you if you can...but it won't happen...since you're still in school take an economics course and a marketing course and then you'll understand.

The Dealer cost for CT headers is ~$800. CT headers should (material + labor) cost be less than $600....

And due Cal Energy cost... CT jacked up their prices by $200.. I guess no more Enrgy crisis.... so Why they do not roll back their price :o

The dealer cost is no longer $800...if you they are...why don't you get a set? They are closer to $900+ wholesale...and yeah it may cost them that much..but they are a business...they aren't in business to be a charity...they invest money in R&D and with limited volume they have to sell them at a higher price.

I'd feel pretty uncomfortable paying any more than 40-50% of the new price for any used automotive part, so $500 sounds fair to me.

You're not hearing me - I understand why prices are outrageous. I'm just pissed that they ARE.

PS- when Greddy/Warpspeed come out with headers, your special ed economics should tell you that increased competition should lower prices.

And once again - it's not a pressing issue for me. I can live without headers if no one is willing to price them at a reasonable price. If I was so pressed, I'd be juicing by now.

Agreed. That's part of the reason I sold mine.... couldn't justify the expenditure made, for the amount of daily use I got from them. That, and I knew that if I kept this crap up (Headers/Exhaust/CAI/Pullies/Springs/Sways) I was gonna go to jail. Period. That freak'n car loves all those mods! I could not, for life of me stay out of SS shoot'n for redline every chance I got. Fact of life, this car as my daily driver with those mods would land me in big trouble sooner, or later.... :P

Hopefully we all will see something from both Greddy, and Warpspeed with similar performance gains, and less cost. Give Comptech (subsidiary of Microsoft,) some competition!

I thank Comptech daily for the smile they put on my face when hitting Vtec and beyond. Glad i didn't wait for these other companies who promise, but don't deliver.

ACP sells new headers for $1121 shipped. 200 more for new headers. I'm glad they hold a value ($925 used). But, I would not have any second thoughts spending another 200 on new headers.

But, from another perspective, I can't think of any reason used headers won't be as good as new ones.

Some things you gladly pay good $$$ for used and some things you don't. It depends on the person.
