When I bought my BBS RK wheels, we weighed the OEM wheels. We came up with 26 lbs each. The RKs are 17 lbs each. Good luck.

What did you weight them on?

A digital bath room scale can be very inaccurate.

A beam balance is the ticket -- did you use one?

Anyway, the range seems to be 24-26lbs (from 4 months of varying info).

I have the rims and tires separated, but hate the idea of bringing them into my doctor's office to have them weighed on a really accurate beam balance scale (good to 1/4 lb)

I believe the scale we used at the dealer was basically a digital "bathroom as you call it" type scale. I doubt it would be off by 7%. If so, a person actually weighing 200lbs would show as weighing only 186.

Anyway, as you say, our OEM wheels are heavy and weigh somewhere around 25lbs, -/+ 1 lbs.

The reason I mentioned the "digital bathroom scales" is that some of them (ours) are WILDLY off at low weights.

For example, we have one, and it is within about 3 lbs between 100 and 230 lbs.

When weighing small objects, the thing isn't even close -- we tried weighing some dumbbells; they where 5lbs, 10lbs, and 15lbs sizes. The 5 lbs dumbbells didn't register more than 2 lbs; the 10 lb ones were 3 lbs low; and the 15 lbs were off by 2-3 lbs.

I think the point I was making is that "some" (at least our's) is very inaccurate at low weights 5-20 lbs (the bending beam or spring is only calibrated for higher weights). We wanted to weight some packages and see if the scale was even close -- no way!!!

Just info -- no more, no less -- the scale you used may have been accurate to a 1/10 lb -- I don't have a clue...

According to our scale at work a bare type S wheel weighs in at a hefty 26 pounds.Needless to say lighter wheels would be an improvment.Jens

a) Stand on the scale, see how much you weigh.
b) Pick up your small object, stand on the scale, see how much you weigh.
c) Subtract a) from b).

You are assuming that that the our "digital" scale is linear -- its not! (You have no idea how creative people, like us get, when wanting to weigh stuff.)

Your suggestion is a good one, if you have a good linear and repeatable scale, that just doesn't read in the lower ranges. Ours doesn't read worth a damn in the sub 20 lb area, but is still a joke!

I am not going to create a weight correction look-up table for my pathetic digital bathroom scale -- no way! (The digital scale we have also will change weight each time we get on -- there is a bending beam, and it is not the most perfect metal.)

There is a tremendous amount of confusion about digital bathroom scales...

1. That the digital bathroom scales are highly non-linear in the amount they are off. (We see the doctor, so we know how bad our digital scales have been.)

2. That they are repeatable (some are, some aren't, and some change with time).

3. That the amount that is displayed from brand-to-brand is off by quite a bit.

4. Nothing beats a good balance beam scale.

RE ITEM #4: Both masses (weights) are subjected to the same gravitational field, and a good doctor's beam balance is accurate to 1/4 lb from 2 lbs to 350 lbs. You would have to abuse the scale to get it to misread.

SOLUTION: -- have someone weigh the stock wheel on a good balance beam. If the wheels realy weight 26 lbs (as Jens said), I'm going to update my sig to show that my wheels and tires are 52 lbs less than stock (wheels 12 lbs less each, Toyos 1.2 less each)!!!

How much for the wheel AND the tire?

My stock 15x6.5" rims with NEW 205/65 tires were 43 lbs. I weighed all 4 tires on my digital bathroom scale and every rim/tire was b/w 42.5 and 43 lbs. I figure the weights used to balance the tires probably caused the difference in weight.

My 17x7.5" rims with 225/45 tires weigh 39lbs a piece. (One tire rang in at 39.5lbs) According to Racing Hart my rims weigh b/w 12-13lbs which means my tires weigh about 26lbs! ACK!!! Anybody know of any "light weight" racing tires?!?!

About 50-51 lbs. The MXM4 weighs about 25 lbs. My Toyo T1S (in 235/45-17) weighs 23.8 lbs. 14 (SSR) + 23.8 (Toyo) => 37.8 lbs.

I'm not so sure the R/H wheels weigh 12-13 lbs each (at least in 17x7.5).

That page with the wheel weights has my wheels weighing in at 13lbs too, and I called the distributor who said they weigh 14lbs.

Hey EricL,

Could you do me a favor since you have your stock wheels and tires seperated? Measure the OD width and ID width of the stock rim. I've measured the stock wheel on the car and it measures close to 8.2" wide ( edge to edge with digital calipers ). I can't believe that the two outer flanges are .6" thick, each. My last car had wheels listed as 6.5" wide and in reality they were 7.5 OD, 7.0"ID.

Maybe this is why the 235/45/17 seem to fit on the stock wheels? Can you help?

TIA

I'll have to jump in there tomorrow and check. The only bummer is my dial readout calipers only run out to 15 CM (about 6 inches). I'll have to take out a Stanley tape measure, in lieu of a very accurate device.

You've got e-mail for contact info -- OK...

I sent you e-mail, but it is dead.

Here is the info:

The width from inside flange to inside flange is exactly 7 inches.

The inner wheel flange in pretty wide -- it is 0.5 inches.

The outside wheel flange is hard to measure due to the contour. It is about 0.6 inches.

So, inside width of the stock wheel -- is 7 inches.

The outside is approximately 8.1 inches.
