How Long Will It Last

How long do you think my '02 CL Type S will last? I have 78,00 miles on it now and keep it in good condition and follow a good maintenance schedule. I drive mostly highway miles. I'd like to keep it as long as I can, but like to prepare for the worst in case I need to buy something new.
Thanks.

Not to be a jerk or anything but this is like asking what will the weather be in 3 years from now on Feb 10.

I have a buddy who doesnt maintain his cars at all that got 300k on an 88 Honda Accord. My sister lost the motor in her Escort at 84k and always changed the oil and such, so there is your range. You didnt mention your driving style or racing habits which will be an influence.

Also, the trans is the question mark on these cars. I drive mine in the city in D4 as it shifts better to me, then use D5 on the highway. I hope to get 120k out of mine, maybe more if I choose to keep it. I know someone here has 150k+ their CL-s. I think the motors will go 250k and beyond if it isnt allowed to overheat. Who knows on the original trans.

good luck.

I would have expected at least 150,000 miles if not more from my CL S. But alas, the tranny was being changed more frequently than I changed tires.

the engine should last longer than you would want to keep it. the tranny is the only thing you might have a problem with, but if the original tranny has made it 100k, it should be able to go at least 150 without problems.

Thanks for the input. I did forget to add that this is the 3rd transmission in the car. The first one failed around 40K, that was replaced and lasted about one week, which they said was rare. This one seems to be holding up fine though and I also took it in for the recall notice. I know there are variables which affect how long the engine will last, but I was just wondering what others got out of their cars.

My father has well over 100k on his TL-S (second tranny, but this one has been on for a while without any problems). He gave his accord to my brother that had about 240k on it and there was nothing wrong with it other than a little rust and my mother nagging for a new car. So if you take care of it and don't drive too bad....it will last a long time

I had mine for about 75000 miles and replaced a tranny every 25000 miles. The car was properly maintained, rarely driven hard. No problems w/ the engine. Hope it works out for you. I just couldn't risk getting shafte w/ tranny repair bill after the 100,000 mile warranty ran out.
