How Good are Koni Shocks over Stock?

I already have CT springs/sways installed using stock shocks and running with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 225/50ZR17s on stock rims. Car handles some much better now without degrading much from ride quality.

If I were to upgraded to adjustable konis, how much better would car handle over stock shocks and how much would the ride quality be degraded?

I heard alot of people talk about yellow konis. I've also seen what CompTech sales. Which konis would you recommend?

thanks,
-g

Konis yellows are a world of difference of compared to stock. Why? Because they are adjustable as far as the shock.

Night and Day difference. Well worth every penny. I ride with mine set in the middle setting for front and rear and love them. At the softest, I could not even tell a difference other than the car responding a little better in the turns. You still have the smooth, stock ride in the softest setting.

Get something else besides stock, I know that! I have Eibach springs on mine and over about 10K miles, they have all but completely worn my stock struts. Now I HAVE to get new struts. But with my 2003, I haven't found any company that says they have anything at all for my car! Any suggestions anyone?

6spd CL-S--you have the Konis specifically for your 2003?

Yes. I have the KONI Sport yellows (adjustable). Call Dean (407) 772-0070. He has good prices on just about anything you want to order. Tell him Scott from Tampa mentioned for you to call him.

You can also PM him at deansbluesi. Calling him is probably the fastest way.

You can NOT compare the two!!!!
Best way is to take out one of your stock shocks and
put it side by side with a Koni Yellow!!! You will shit
your pants at the differences!!!! The stock shocks
will look like a toothpick next to a baseball bat when
you do the compaison. The Koni's are built better,
use better parts, and are adjustable.

Don't think about it, just do it!!

Thanks for all your responses. I'm strongly leaning toward upgrading to the konis (yellow) and CT Titanium S.T.B. in several months.

It says "you can not lower your car with these shocks" on chodthewacko's faq page. Is this a typo, or am I just interpretting it wrong? Just wondering, because I'm looking into Koni Yellows too.

KONI YELLOWS ARE AWESOME! best mod to my car besides the xenons. the car is so much more responsive and its fun to adj the dampers. u can go from mild to wild! and if u want to get nuts u can drop the car another .4" by setting the springs on the lower perch.

You can lower you car with these shocks.
What this may be referring to, is that the Koni's have two
perches for the spring to sit on. An upper and a lower perch.
If you put them on the lower perch, you will ruin the shocks.
Koni will VOID the warranty if you use the lower perch.
Using the lower perch will lower you car about another 1/2
inch or so.

it said nothing in my koni paperwork about voiding the warranty.

what i got from the instructions was a warning that using the lower perch setting could cause your car to bottom out, ie scrape the ground.

why the hell would the shock have a setting that could void the warranty?

when i asked about using the lower perch, people said it wouldn't even work, but i had mine set up like that for 6 months with no problems, other than a stiff ride.

oh, to answer your question, stock shocks are like a piece of shit, koni's are like a bar of gold.

Well here's the reply I received from Neuspeed answering some questions I had on the Neuspeed/Koni SP3 shocks, but remember that these are bit different from the standard Koni Yellows. Warranty issue is bolded below.

Hello,
There are 5 grooves on the shock body that are seperated by a distance
of about 10mm. they come factory set at the center groove. Theoretically,
you can lower your car about .75" with stock springs or aftermarket springs.
Using aftermarket springs will not void the warranty. For further product
information, ordering procedures, or a dealer near you, please feel free to
give our sales staff a call at (800)423-3623 or (805)388-7171 or you may fax
them at (805)388-0030. Thank you for your inquiry!

Best regards,
Danny

koni makes them specifically for neuspeed and they have 5 perches instead of 2. koni's version, the sp4 only has 2 perches.

But I would try to confirm that using them on a lower perch with aftermarket springs doesn't void the warranty, in writing if possible, with whomever you're getting the Konis from just in case. After all, remember all the conflicting stories we get from Tein regarding their products, the same may occur with Neuspeed, I was just sharing the info I received.

the guys w/ koni's on the softest setting, have you driven a stock typeS? after driving your car?

I was told, probably wrong but no aftermarket shock will be softer than stocks. even the koni's w/ the softest setting.

I just want the softest ride possible, may be even softer than a stock typeS and soft as a cl-p or a tl-p
