How do you line up the chrome emblems on the trunk of a 2001 or 2002 CL Type S?

I have viewed dozens of pictures of the rear badging on Acura CL Type S cards all over the internet looking for a factory view of the emblems. Most of the pictures are off angle and it is extremely hard to tell exactly where to replace the emblems.

I went to the Acura dealership and found a type S that looked to be original. It looks like if you draw a line by lying a thin piece of cardboard across the top of the backup light in the rear right tail light, the result is close to where the badges should fall. I say close because I tried this with some new trim and it visually looks like the badges tilt downward toward the center of the car. If I squat to look at the emblems, they look parallel to the ground, but they look tilted when viewed while standing close to the car.

My wife has accused me of being obsessive compulsive, but it looks like about 90% of the Type S cars out there have the emblems installed improperly. I just want the car to look like it did from the factory. Is there a template available or any advice from you body guys on how to install the badges correctly? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

BTW, I know a lot of you guys will say to take them all off and debadge, but I like it better stock.

The A C U R A on my car was definitely slanted when I first got it. But I made all my emblems black and put them back on straight according to where the first A in Acura was on the trunk. Not sure why so many arent straight from the factory.

I could have swore that I've seen someone post a scan from the helms manual with the factory spacing, but I can find it now. Seaches for measure* badge*, measure* emblem*, measure* letter*, and the same with replacing measure with dimension didn't turn up anything...

I'll try to remember to find and scan that page, but if I don't remember, bump this thread (posting again in this thread will put it back to the top of the forum list or "bump" it)...

I would tell you to PM me if I forget, but you can't PM anyone till you have 5 posts...

I've seen cars with the letters put back on willy nilly, so I aggree that you can't be too anal about the badge spacing....

Oh, welcome to the forum !!

If you got them from a dealer they should have come with a template for centering the letters.
At least the sets I've seen were that way. It's been a while they might have changed it I suppose.

The manual helps!

I knew there had to be some kind of publication. First, in my original post, I meant cars, not cards. Spellchecker can’t catch everything. I was mostly concerned about the 3.2 CL Type S emblems. Looks like this still requires some eye work. The top measurements the manual uses are from a rounded edge. It is very hard to get fractional measurements from this. My guesstimate from using other people's cars looks very close. I'll post some pix soon in case anyone else is interested. I'll also include some pix of my gen 3 TL wheels on my CL-S. Thanks! Jonesie

Jonesie, you'll need to host your photos remotely and link them here...

If you're having trouble PM me... I can host the photos if you have trouble putting them up on photobucket. It's a good thing to learn how to post photos on the internet tho'..

3M double sided tape. Strongest one they make. Mine are a metallic black so theres definitely a little sparkle to it, not that glossy though.

alright, thanks kings4987. i'mma try it out, i just tinted my white CL with 20% all around, so the black letters will match nicelyy. i think the tough part is going to be cutting out the double-sided tape for the small letters..

No Problem. Its really a pain to cut all the tape but mine havent had any problems and are all still on tight at 2 years old. So its worth it. Good luck
