How Acura could get an easy 20hp increase:

A stock CL-S puts just 200 of its 260 hp to the rear wheels. That's a 23% driveline loss. Typical losses for a manual tranny are just 15%, so the same 260hp engine would put 220 to the wheels. Get with it, Acura.

Whoops.
Actually, drivetrain losses to the REAR wheels would be 100%, wouldn't they?

See, that's how good the car is. I keep wanting to say power to the rear wheels. Could this be a Freudian slip?

I think you're missing my point. I want Acura to offer the car with a manual tranny. This would get another 20hp to the wheels, weigh a little less, be more fun to drive, and probably cost less as well. Such a car would dyno around 220 at the wheels, bone stock. With headers, maybe 240hp.

All this is easy because it's at no extra cost and would sell more cars, right?

Hmmm... I bought the car since I wanted to have fun in the hills and enjoy a sluggo commute on our congested freeways. I would not have bought the car if it only came with a manual (and I love manuals, double clutching, shifting with out the clutch, etc).

Yes, they could have done this, but they probably did market surveys like all big companies and decided that their target market wasn't big enough to warrant the addition of the manual.

A lot of stuff is going to happen in the next few years regarding electronically shifted manuals and CVT (Continuously Variable Transmissions). If you want, drop Acura an email, they will see how many people want it (the manual).
