honda scooters?

might be making a residence change soon and will be much closer to work. Walkin/biking really isn't an option. I'm sure as hell not gonna drive cause it's so close. I figure a scooter would be great way to save gas, wear/tear on the car etc., Plus i could use it for short distance errands around town.

Anybody have any experience with honda scooters? Do need to get a license? Insurance?

i'm looking at the Elite 80.

you'll need some sort of bike path for that type of scooter, the gas ones are around $500, 20mph, no license.

the honda rukus looks cool, think you need a license/helmet for the official 'scooter/moped' if it doesn't have pedals.

Yep, you'll need a motorcycle license for anything bigger then 50cc's. Laws are different from state to state tho', but that's the basic rule of thumb.

Honda has a new Metropotitan that's a 50cc (like the rukus, but w/ body panels). It goes for about 1700-1800 new but I've seen some used ones going for about 1100.

If you're going to get something bigger then 50cc (motorcycle license required) it might make more sense to buy a Honda motorcycle. I'm a big fan of the Honda Rebel 450 .

I'm not a huge fan of the newer plastic scooters, but I like the oldschool Vespas. If I was going to buy a scooter today, I'd get a Stella .

Here's a link to the a-cl.com of the scooter world:

Hope this helps,

John
