I think they had to go to the 3.5L V6 to do it but you're right. It should be awesome. I had a 98 Max SE with 5SPD and not much could touch it. But what about the Altima SE with that engine in it??

I saw the I35 at the Auto Show... real impressive.

The face lift looks real nice... and the interior is first class.

Nice big chrome rims.

The power should really make that car a contender. Beatin on TL-S's

Can anyone post pics of the new I35?
Wow check out these hp numbers on new
Nissans and Inifinitis:

Nissan Sentra: 170-180hp
Nissan Pathfinder: 240-250hp
Nissan Altima: 240hp!
2003 Nissan Maxima: 260hp
2003 Nissan Z (350Z??): 260+hp

Infiniti QX4: 240hp
2003 Infiniti XVL (G20 replacement): 230hp
2002 Infiniti Q45: 340hp

Wow Nissan is really using that new 3.5L engine in a lotta cars/SUVs, by my count at least 6.

but it's a 4spd automatic, so the higher torque may not be as efficiently used as our 231lbft with 5 gears.

But the Nissan Max should have a 5-speed manual and that sucka should be quick.

yes, and the I35 is NOT getting a 5spd auto, it's keeping the same 4 it had, as well as the automatic maximas.

the 5spd manual, is well, a manual and wouldn't be installed in the infiniti...this has no correlation to a 5spd auto.

and the 5spd auto on the q45 is a differnet tranny for a different engine/drive configuration (ie rwd) and wouldn't work in a q45.

The new Nissan Z is coming available with 5 speed auto or 6-speed manual and its engine should be the same as the maxima's and the I35, why wouldn't they use the same transmission (even though Z car will be RWD)? The 5 speed auto on the Q45 wouldn't work on a Q45??? It makes sense to offer a 5 speed auto when Acura TL, Mercedes C and E class and BMW 3 series offer 5 speed auto trannies.

I have found some info on the I35 at www.nissannews.com and it will be a 4 speed auto.

Think about the drive wheels. Think about the necessary configuration of the tranny.

And I seriously doubt that the upcoming Z would share the exact engine block as the I35. I'd expect a generation of VQ-based engines along the lines of the F20/K20.

i meant i35.

i'm not trying to negate your thinking, but the i35 is NOT getting a 5spd auto.

http://www.edmunds.com/news/autoshow...5/page014.html

they don't have a car out with a v6 and 5spd auto...so they dont' have one to use yet.

I sat in it at the NYC autoshow.
The interior was old school. Bland and definitely not on par with the CL.

i don't remember where i read it, but the didn't the dude at the auto show announce that they're killing off the i30 (acutally i35 as the i30 is dead soon anyway)?

i'm guessing this is the last iteration of the car.
