hit & run - BRA question

Well this morning I walked out of my house to get my suitcase out of my trunk and froze on my driveway. About an 8" dia dent on my driverside front bumper!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Took me about 5 min. to think about what was going on since my car was parked on the wrong side of the street (driverside against the curb)
I guess it happened yesterday morning and I didnt notice and i was driving around and didnt notice it . Yesterday I was driving all day, I was in AC and some other areas but it couldnt of happened there b/c i was either parked into a wall, etc...... So someone that lives or friends with someone on my street hit me. fuckin great, it should be in the garage anyway....

So im going to get a new bumper and I tried to use the search but nothing came up. Who has a bra here or know anything about them, ive never owned one for a car. Can you have it on in rain/snow for long periods of time, cleaning, i assume acura makes there own for your specific car, how much, wheres the best place to buy, how do you like it, does you paint look brand new when you remove the bra after a long period of time, and anything else you can think of?

sorry for the length

1. You should be able to keep that bra on in the rain. I'm not too sure if it will do anything else to the rest of the car.

2. Post a pic of the dent. if it's on the bumper, a lot of times, if you can reach it, you may be able to push it out as long as nothing is cracked.

the main problem with bras is the paint other paint will fade, but the paint under the bra will not. Since your car is SSM, I don't think that will be much of an issue, as it isn't prone to fading as much as other colors (SMR, for example).

I'm not sure if anyone on here has one on their CL, but i'm sure there are more people on here with more experience.

PS
Sorry to hear about the hit and run, that's gotta be the worst

Skip the leather bra and get a 3M clear bra. Won't have to deal with fade, taking it on and off, microscratches, and it will protect just as well.

I wish I did it when my car was new.

I would try to get it fixed soon. You can get that fixed for a couple hundred bucks.

silvertypes-

ssm shouldnt be to bad with that, like you said. i ususally keep the whole car covered either in the garage or car cover so the overall tone should stay relativly similar.

i just wouldnt want a line where the bra was covering and not covering or mold/mildue getting between the car and bra, anyone???

thanks man. hit and run is def. the worst!!

I still wouldn't recommend keeping the bra on for long periods of time where it sees rain or snow. I had one for my Maxima and I left it on when wet. The moisture that was trapped between the bra and paint ended up getting into the paint. Looked like it was etched or something.

I have a bra for the CLS now, but I only keep it on when taking trips.

Yep, I'd be worried about having mold/mildew under the bra... I've seen some messed up front ends from people leaving a wet bra on a car (over and over)...

Most bra users will suggest that you only use the bra on long highway trips or when tracking the car (road courses)...

I'd be hesitant to keep a bra on full time...

A bra ain't gonna protect you from getting another dented bumper... It'll protect from road debris (rocks, bugs, etc), but if you get tapped again, you'll still have another 8 inch dia dent, only with the bra, you won't be able to see it

Call a body shop and check. But it really shouldn't be too much if all they have to do is change the cover. If you have a lot of structural damage under the cover, then it could be a bit more. Take it to a shop and get an estimate.

I really fucked up my front bumper on my old eclipse and a body shop fixed it for 200 bucks cash. I would definately suggest to AVOID car bras unless its the 3m clear bra (a bit too expensive imo) because dirt will end up getting caught between the bra and the paint and it will act as SAND PAPER against your car. A leather bra is only good for isolated highway trips, otherwise it'll fuck up your paint pretty bad.

thanks all. I would like to have the leather but like ya'll said, its not recomended for rain/snow conditions constantly so that rules it out. i think i am going to go with the 3m clear tape. expensive as shit but worth it imo since i am going to have perfect paint on the front end. i hate the little chip i have on there now.

Don't waste your time on a bra for that purpose. It really shouldn't be left on in all weather conditions. I had 1 on a silver car & didn't have a problem with fade or scratches or anything else. I left it on sometimes for months, but I also took it off. It was a really easy job to take off & put on. I only had that bra for about a year though so I couldn't tell you long term effects. But from what I've read It's not a good idea to leave on all the time.
The Acura bra is a PITA to put on & take off. I have 1 for my CLS but I only put it on for road trips.
