Hit 135mph Today

Coming South on the 101 in AZ just about to get off at University and I was doing about 85 for about 1.5 miles there is a place where you can pin it and then slow down getting off the exit, you can see any cops. Anyhow nail it and it was a little flat between 100-105 and also 125-130. But I was so shocked the car was really quiet at that high speed. The ride was stable and the wind noise was actaully minimal. It almost felt as good as the Jaguar. Must say I was really impressed. Now i'm waiting for V-1 to come in the mail and I will test out 147 and also take pictures at that speed.

What do you mean by a little flat?

And what Jaguar?

Anyway that musta been fun...every1 on the board says that at 145 it begins to feel "light".

Are you saying you did 135mph w/o a radar detector?

Hebrew......HAHA......I definately agree that you are out of your mind and dangerous, but sounds like fun!!!!! I would never do it because the cons MOST DEFINATELY outweigh the COSTS!!! But hey that just me. Be careful bro' once you get that V1.

First off the Jaguar question. My dad has Jaguar's and whenever he wasn't home I took them out and once did 140+ in the XJR but that had V-1 in it. That was back in NY about 2am on a highway.
Second I understand 135 is dangerous but sometimes you want to test that shit out. I know especially without a radar dectector but I made sure it was an area where I could see the only place cops could sit around and I used the exit ramp as my braking space. Why flame me where else am I going to test out the top speed of this car.

I usually post against high speeds on public roads. But I've driven in AZ and man it can be desolate. The roads are generally flat, well maintained, not highly trafficked, and you can see far enough ahead to make it as safe as you can get for high speed street driving.

Yeah, but he did this on the 101 freeway in the middle of Phoenix!!!

Glad you got through it okay, Anthony. But next time, use I-8 between Tucson and San Diego. That's where I hit 150mph!!

Would it even make a difference? I'm sure any cop worth a damn could tell he was WAY over the speed limit from a long distance without any electronic help.

Yep, makes a helluva difference. Some cops won't ticket you (warning or non-speed) w/o radar. Also visual is easier to defent in court. There's a good chance he could have detected a cop far enough away to slow down, even at 135mph. I got clocked doing over 100mph but I knew the Minnesota State Trooper actually missed getting a reading on me, he turned his instant on too late as I zoomed by. He confirmed this with me "you were going way too fast for me to clock you...but I knew your were speeding", and he gave me a warning instead. Yes it's not a must to have a radar detector to drive very fast but the least you can do is minimize your chances of getting a ticket. Arm yourself with everything you can.

Like Barry said, I'm usually against those kinds of speeds but I've been up and down Phoenix->Flagstaff, Phoenix->Las Vegas, metro Phoenix, and 135mph is not really that bad. With all the other speeding cars and those wide open spaces, I doubt the police can tell how fast you are going from 3/4 mile away.

I've gotta agree that the car feels light over 140. Regarding a radar detector over 100mph -- not sure if it'd do much if you're the only car on the road. And although people will flame for going over 100 on public roads, everyone's gotta admit that some stretches in the rural areas beg for you to test out your (and the car's) upper limit. My biggest worry in those areas has always been police aircraft -- like they use in southern Louisiana and Alabama. Definitely think that over 85-90 at night isn't too wise as you're overdriving your lights. And speeding in NY state in general -- those guys on the thruway use lidar, don't they?
Anyway, back to >120. Did you use 4th or 5th? My first time I tried in 5th and the car felt like it had no power. (I had been cruising at approx 120.) The next time, I downshifted to 4ht around 120 and it was much better. But I don't think the car can handle speeds greater than 120 very well. At least not as well as my dad's 740. Of course the 740's a heavier car which might explain why it feels more stable.

Oh I wouldn't be so sure about that! I recently got my first ticket in several years on Highway 93 between Kingman and Vegas. There was light traffic on a wide open 4 lane road in the middle of the desert. I was only doing 86mph in a 65mph and the focker still clocked me visually. So if they can tell 20mph over, they can sure the hell tell 135mph!!!! It's really pretty obvious (even 20mph over is obvious).

I woulda fought it, but traffic school is much easier and **poof** - no more ticket!

Not to be argumentative, but help me understand. Are you saying from 3/4 mile away, a cop saw you approaching, doing 86 in a 65? Come on....

If you don't slow down, of course he can judge your speed. Yes, if you drive past a patrol car at 135mph, it will be painfully obvious to everyone.

I only mentioned that you needed a radar detector so that while doing 135mph, you have a chance to slow down before getting clock. If you happen to run up on a patrol car that did not have radar, you can still hit the brakes and slow down when you see the cop ahead of you before he can judge your speed at 135mph. Someone said a radar detector is not going to help because any cop (radar or not) can see you coming at 135mph, judge your speed, and turn around on you before you can make use of a radar detector. Down my neighborhood street yes, AZ/NV desert, not likely.

No, I'm not saying that at all.

In your earlier post you said:
"I doubt the police can tell how fast you are going from 3/4 mile away"

I'm just disagreeing with that. I realize 3/4 mile is a pretty far distance for the human eye to notice, but 135mph is also pretty damn fast. Let's just say I wouldn't place any bets that he couldn't detect you visually.

Nevermind what I said about my ticket. It doesn't apply.

Also, at 100+ in the daytime, there will be a large cloud of dust and debris (depending on the road and weather conditions) due to the turbulence behind your car. Easy to see over a mile way.
