Exclamation HELP!!! rotor screw is f'd!

My impact screwdriver bit broke into the rotor screw!!!

I purchased some rotoras from Excelerate and I tried to install them this weekend. I used my impact screwdriver to remove the 2 screws holding the rotors. The screw was on there so tight, that it broke the impact screwdriver bit...INSIDE the screw head.

WTF do i do!?! I tried to drill out the screw...but the hardened bit (that's jammed inside the screw head) is preventing my drill from really being able to work...

You could use a rotary cut-off wheel to cut a notch into the head of the screw. Then just use the flat head bit with you impact screwdriver to remove the screw

drill it out using a reverse threading bit.

err... i forget the exact name, but the bit drills in forwards, then when you reverse it out, instead of just coming it out, it threads itself and turns the screw left.

I agree with CleanCL, a screw extraction bit is your best bet. They sell 'em at Sears and most hardware stores...they saved me lots of time and effort. Once removed there's no need to replace it. It doesn't really serve a purpose other than holding the rotor in place when installing new ones.

Yes, all those screws do is hold the rotors in place while the vehicle is coming down the assembly line. Once you get them out just toss 'em in the trash.

I used a center punch and hammer to drive the screw counterclockwise. I was able to loosen and remove the screw using this method.

taking a ball peen hammer and placing it on the screw(rounded end), then hitting it with another hammer first will make them come out much easier.
