Lightbulb Help needed

What's good y'all? I'm trying to find a 2nd gen CL Type-S, black interior. I'm partial to black on black, but I'm open as long as it's not white or silver exterior (too common around here). I can spend about $14,000 total.

I've been searching for about a month now, and this is what seems to happen - whenever I do find something, it's got high mileage (80K and up) or some other major issue.

For example, I test drove an 01 with 90K miles (felt smooth though), but the guy selling it (he set off my spider sense off top - meaning he just seemed shady) was talking about "it's stock and well maintained", yet the interior was dirty as hell, and he admitted that 1) there was a computech ice box on it and 2) he doesn't really know anything about what may have been done by the previous owner. There were two switches near the sunroof buttons, and he had no idea what they were for (he was asking $11,000 by the way). While this may seem minor to some, the way I see it, I'm not gonna commit myself to 4 years of payments for this, especially when the tranny warranty would be up in just 10K miles.

Moving right along, I've seen a nice black on black 01, but I didn't get to test drive it because the the battery was dead (allegedly). The interior and exterior looked good though, and from preliminary negotions, I think I might be able to get it for around $13000. If anyone has a CarFax account, can you hook me up with some reports?

This is my 1st time buying a car, and I'd also appreciate any negotiating tips too.

Thanks in advance

Personally, save some cash and get one that's got lower miles.

"Don of Dons" is just something I took from a dancehall song - I'm not trying to step on any one's shoes. I say $14000 because that's what I can afford according to my calculations.

Other than the transmission is there anything else specific to 2nd gens that I need to look out for?

For $14,000 you could get a really low mileage CL-S. I got mine 2yrs. ago (2001 Black on tan Type-S) for $15,000 with 40,000 miles in it.

Unfortantly, the South FL area doesn't have a good CL market. All cars here are almost always high miles cause you have to drive everywhere.
Just keep searching.

Bulldawg, I think you lucked out. Either that, or you were flexible in your search. I am too, kinda, but some things I won't yield on. Can you tell me where/how you got such a good deal?

Fuzzy, I totally agree. I myself drive several miles to and from work. It's the transmission that scares me the most - after 100K, I'm on my own so to speak.

Going back to the point though, if anyone has a carfax account, I'd really appreciate it if they let me run a few vins of CL's I'm seriously considering. Also, I could use some negotiating tips.

Thanks

I have a feeling this search is gonna take months. I feel like I'm in that snickers commercial.

"Not going anwhere for awhile? Grab a snickers!"

It's kinda weird, but the car found me. I was about to buy an RSX-S from a private seller when a salesman from a dealership i was at earlier in the week gave me a call. He knew what kind of car I was looking for so he refered me to another private seller that had the Cl-S. My big bro kind of influenced me into buying the CL-S. I like it, but every day I WISH I had bought an RSX-S instead. It's faster, newer, cheaper on gas, and Better looking than our cars. But I was partial to the luxury and V6 of the CL.

It's official y'all - I'm the new owner of a 2001 PDG Acura CL-S. I couldn't be happier. I've always driven rageday ass cars so this is like driving a GT coupe to me. Here are the pics: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2279649

Well, My Take On The Tranny Recalls Are As Follows......i Bought My 01' Cl-s When It Was 1 Year Old.......i Went Thru 2 Trannies In 3 Years.......i Got It In Black And White: " Every Tranny That You Have Installed Thru The Recall, Has A 36k Mile Warranty Attached With It ". So I Got My Last Tranny At 88k Miles, So I Am Good For Another 13k Miles

I don't think so!!!

The RSX-S is not faster, or better looking!!!!

I smoked one of those about 2 weeks ago...With Mods!!!

Im stock.....
Now, once you turbo a RSX it will then be faster
