Help find a new home for Acura-CL.com.....
Well... Calvin's employer (who hosts our server) is going through some financial troubles... like the rest of our world...
So we will be needing to find a new home for our server.
We really have no sort of budget for hosting... so hopefully someone here can hook as up with reliable service like Calvin did. Even so... anything thats dirt cheap will do.
Calvin will reply to this with details on what sort of bandwidth/etc well need.
I know many of you work for ISP's so help us out!
Ideally, we have a few weeks for this. But as with everything in life... the sooner the better.

Hey guys, well things are really shitty here. I was one of the last few people left. We need to move the site ASAP before they shut it off. Right now they don't know about it. That is Corp. Reliant does not know about it but they will in the next week or so. I can only hold them off for so long then its game over. I am not really in the mood to talk right now but I can say I will be back in a few days.

Any chance of a possible “KISS & make-up” with the TL guys ???
If not, I have no problem at all with making this a PAY site.
I have learned so much here (and hopefully shared some knowledge as well) it would be well worth it to me.

Hello, I am here to make you an offer. I represent www.AutomotiveForums.com We have been around for less than a year, and our forums are taking off. We plan on sticking around for a very long time. I come to you with a proposition. You can move your forums over to our site, under the Acura CL forum. We would co-brand the forums with your site. You could arange the forums the same way here, etc. and change them anyway you would like. We would handle all technical aspects of the forums, and pay for the bandwidth. If you are interested, drop me a email@ kris@automotiveforums.com
Thanks,
Kris</STRONG>

There seems to be some confusion.
We don't need a web host...
We don't need space on a server...
We have a server! We simply need to find a socket with bandwidth to plug it into.
We need to slip it into a server farm somewhere. ANYONE?

Well - I love this board as much as the next guy, but here's a reality check.
All the "inexpensive" colocation providers are dying painful deaths - as 'toker knows all to personally.
So IMHO, you have to ask yourself if you HAVE to use your own server, or if you could run it on another server.
If you find co-lo space, then that's fantastic. If I still owned my ISP (www.fcol.com - sold it a few years ago), I'd drop it in in a microsecond.
A lot of other co-hosting facilities offer the type of service you're looking for - but they charge outrageous prices.
So - you have a decision to make. 1) Let the site die (I'd pay a bit of a tithing every month) 2) hope and pray someone comes forward with rack space or 3) share a server until you DO find the rack space you want.
Option 3 allows you to continue to run in a less than desirable mode until you find just what you want.
My bets are on option 3.
IMHO.

Like Rock Dog said... we already have a machine and everythings all set up... we just need to find somewhere to plug it in
I'll do some shopping today... if we have prices perhaps then we can find a way to pay the bill every month.
Yes this is very important... but dont worry too much just yet.. well figure something out.
Oh & BTW... we wont be partnering with anyone... or switching servers... or selling off. We just bought a $2000 machine for this site... I want to get more then a month of use out of it!
Ron, if youve got bandwidth somewheres lemme know. Or are you just being hosted elsewhere?

Just to let some of you lurkers know, I called this company today to get a quote and more details. Their web site is somewhat misleading (you must read the fine print). The "unlimited" space refers to HTML code only. My web site is over 400 MB in size, this includes videos and graphics as well as HTML code.
Here's the problem:
The Company's "unlimited traffic and storage" offer is to provide the Company's customers with storage space and bandwidth for active Web pages and cannot be used as a "storage space" for electronic files. An example of sites that fall under "electronic storage" are large archives of images, compressed files, movies, or sound files. The Company permits up to 15 megabytes of archive storage, e.g. avi or wav files, images, compressed files, shareware, games, programs, etc.. All HTML pages MUST be linked to files (HTML, .jpg, .gif, etc.) stored on Company's server and vice versa.
The Company does not permit sites in the Unlimited Plan where 20% or more of the monthly traffic is from file downloads, or sites that use more than 10% of system resources, or sites which in the Company's view are detrimental to the enjoyment of the Company services by the Company's other clients, or are in the sole and final judgment of the Company, detrimental to network or business operations.

So how do we stay in touch if they pull the plug in the middle of the night? Soopa, do you have emails on everyone? I guess we could reassemble over at Honda-Acura.net. You think they'd have us back?
