Frankly I am surprised that Comptech said that.

I wouldn't think that it would be an issue at all. There should be no way that they wouldn't handle the heat...

randomwalk101 had his headers wrapped up like a mummy. He has OBX and hasn't a problem yet.

Yeah. And I understand their argument, but I just don't see you having any issues with wrapping them...

On the other hand, how much are you going to gain???

two fold gains the hotter gases seek to escape out of the exhaust faster and keeps the heat in the engine bay cooler allowing for better head temps and possiblly a more advanced spark situation...5hp if i were guessing....but what im reading is....they get the headers so hot they would acctually glow orange and the constant heat build up then cool down will cause them to crack....id like more info on this though before i or anyone else were to proceed

I thought I remember reading on the Comptech Forum that they said wrapping the headers was fine and wouldn’t hurt or void the warranty.
But Mike’s opinion was that it wasn’t really going to increase the HP by anything that’s noticeable.

I heat-wrapped my downpipe on the turbo kit... helped reduce underhood temp a LOT. I don't think wrapping our headers will help that much... might in terms of allowing hot-air to pass through quicker... more hp.. don't know!

I agree with you on how the benefits work, and the possible gains. I guess my point was whether or not the 5hp was worth the possibly unsupported setup (subjective..). I probably didn't make that too clear though (Oops!)...

On a turbo kit, the gains on the downpipe would have a more dramatic effect than the (dare I say) theoretical gains of wrapping headers to reduce engine bay temps. While I realize that it it technically possible to have a "more advance" spark situation, I don't see it as being likely. As far as air temp helping (other than the obvious engine advantages), most of us are no longer getting air from the airbox, so still don't see it (at least not enough to warrant the setup).

Big time IMHO though

not sure where i read it, but i recall something that one layer of the wrap is all that is needed, and wrapping the pipes multiple times is when things get too hot, with no additional performance gain.
