headlight trouble .... should I be worried

Alright, heres how it went down. It was about 11PM and I was at my friends house. I had been driving for about an hour to get there and when I got there my friend said that my light was out. Well, I knew one of my fogs was already out so I told him I knew that but he said it was the headlight -- Ill be damned -- It WAS the headlight. The right side one to be exact which is the same side that the fog light was out on. Well, I was perplexed at first and then I started to tap the housing of the light (dont ask why) to see if I could tap it to go on. Well, I turned the headlight switch to just driving lights and then to headlights and the right one worked but it was WAAAAAY brighter than the other one. Eventually it got back to the normal brightness but this concerned me -- i only have 11k miles on the car and one of my HIDs already dies?

BTW, sounds like you have a short somewhere. Since the light came back on, obviously it's not blown. You may want to take it to the dealer and have them check the wiring on that side of the car.....

do you think that short also caused the foglight to go out on that side?

It's definitely possible, esp. if there is a short on that side.... I would check that out ASAP. Electrical problems are no joke.

The dealer is going to charge him mad money because he tampered with it. It will not be covered under warranty. GOod luck man!

Why do you think that? I didnt not tamper with the lights. Plus, under the M-M law they have to prove what I did (which was just splice connectors on 3 wires) constituted a breakdown in the headlight.

This was exactly what happened to my right head light before it went out. It should not have anything to do with the shock sensor install since the shock sensor installation is not involved with any wires that connect to the headlights (in my case) and it started to do that before I installed the shock sensor in my car. I think there is something going on with the right headlight since several members had the right one messed up already.

The light bulb was replaced under warranty.

Your CL-S got stolen? Man, sorry to hear it! Yeah, for some reason I felt I should tap it -- too bad it didnt work otherwise I would have written a topic for Chods FAQ "how to fix right headlight. Step 1) tap headlight 2) verify working condition -- if still not working repeat until working"

Damnit, I was hoping that was the same problem. So, what kind of life are you guys getting from your road lamps anyways? Also, since it looks like Im gonna replace em, what should I replace em with? I want a nice white tone to match the HIDs.

my right road lamp went out at 3800 miles. Pretty disturbed but just took the opportunity to replace them with PolargM6's. Love 'em. Wish I would've known about tapping them a few times.

Try this before you go to the dealer.Locate the electrical plug on the back of the headlight for the H.I.D. system ,it is grey in color and plugs into a same color plug attached to the headlight housing.Inspect it for loose wires .I have seen many instances where the factory does not fully seat the wiring in the plugs causing intermittent lighting problems. It is unlikely there is a short circuit as this would cause the fusing for the headlamp circuit to blow. Also the fog/driving lights are on a different circuit protected by their own fuse than the main headlamps.Jens
