CARB certification means you are guaranteed not to have to yank your third-party performance parts to pass California's stringent smog test. I paid $850 for new Comptechs, and do not regret it. In fact, it's my second pair! My previous CL-S was totalled March of last year, and the damage made the headers inaccesable. The original set had the resonance issue, but the posted fix took care of that.

I know exactly what CARB certification is. But how many people do you honestly know that have ran into problems w/ it? Hell I just got smog and my CAI at the time wasn't CARB certified. I didn't have a problem.

If you can find comptechs used it's a great deal.

Have Comptech stainless headers (and full exhaust system) on my '03 Type-S and have not had any problems with them so far. Installation was fun, especially doing the job by myself. I also found that the rear header would not go over the header studs without disconnecting the rear motor mount. So it takes an extra 30 minutes or so to loosen the mount, push it to the side, slip the header over the studs and reconnect the motor mount. I advise getting a friend to help you - but some of us are just happy to scrape our knuckles by ourselves.

Even so, the Comptech headers are professionally made and offer a considerable horsepower gain over the stock system. The headers are also CARB certified for use in the great smog state of California.

Guess if I paid over close to $1200 (incl install) labor or more for a set of Solid Gold Headers I would be defensive to.
Still waiting on the before and after dyno for the Alpha Werks........ I'm sure the gains will be much greater than Stone, Comptech, OBX, etc..... Talk is cheap provide evidence. BTW Slightly used Comptech headers own.

I am NOT saying that if you put uncertified parts in your car that it will not pass; the point I am trying to make here is that with CARB certified parts you do not have to worry about your equipment affecting the smog test. And yes, I do know some Honda tuners that have to put some of their stock parts back on to pass smog, which is too much time and trouble for a car I use every day.

Try this analogy: you may be able to outrun the (smog) police under the proper set of circumstances, but don't you think it would be better to avoid the situation entirely? I do! If I did not live in California, it would not be a major concern, and I might be willing to sacrifice a little quality for something more cost effective.
