Header Install Question

Guys/Gals.

Got my Comptech Header in today. So in ernest expectation I jacked up the car last night and looked around as to how I will install this thing. Doesn't look like the rear-side manifold drops from the bottom of the car... might have to take the strut-bar, cruise-control-gadget off to take the manifold out-top (plus gives
more room for my hand to take the lock-nuts off).

Anybody here installed this themselves? The instructions from Comptech are very sparse... and I don't want to do this the hard way.

Any suggestions for a '03 6-spd?

Check with Scalbert. He did it himself with his 6-Spd. Also check with Shawn S. I think he had a hand with the installation of his car as well .

You don't have to take it out top side, take it out from the bottom. I had the use of a lift and was able to reach everything from the bottom pretty much.

Header Install

I don't know if there are any differences in the rear motor-mount for the auto vs. 6spd, but even with the A-pipe off, I really don't see the room to bring the manifold out from underneath. Actually to think of it, the rear mount is different (much bigger than the auto... somebody making headers for this mentioned that to me).

Put it this way, I couldn't get the rear-manifold cover off under
the car... so I doubt the manifold itself will drop down.

If there's something I am overlooking, please let me know.

EVERYTHING comes out from the bottom.
Heat shields, front manifold, rear manifold and “A-Pipe”.
New stuff all goes in from the bottom as well.
You do need to loosen and tighten some of the bolts from the top and an extra set of hands is a must unless you’re an experienced auto mechanic.

Here is my write-up on the install with photos.

Okay... done!

Well, it was a pain, especially those manifold studs in the back
and those annoying Comptech nut-bolt combination between the A-pipe and the manifolds.... but its done. Took two bloody hours... wish I had air tools.

Anyways, its not too difficult... just need some patience, I suppose.

And YES, everything came out from the bottom, never thought it
would with everything bolted up, I must say.

Performance: Pretty darn nice. If 1st gear would start cutting the tires loose past 5K, I'd say 1st and 2nd is just as good as my NSX was.

I think its worth the $900-ish.

Thanks for everyone's suggestions.

Good job!

Sratches are still healing on my hand from the rear bank, but they are worth it. The power difference is awesome.

Hey, to my excuse... I just wanted to see what others had done so that I didn't spend a half-day swapping headers!

I'll say. I looked at the post and the user name, then I thought, "What the..? Allmotor asking about headers installation?" Then I looked at the date, and it all made sense.

You indeed have come a long way to asking about headers installation to going turbo on your CL.
