Has anyone ever removed a "ding/dent" themselves?

I have this subtle dent (no paint damage) in my right rear quarter panel that I can access easily when I take the trunk liner out --

Can I use something blunt w/ a soft cloth on it and push it out slowly from the inside --

anyone ever tried or successfully done this??

Thanks

(lookin' to save about $200.00 from a body shop)

All I know is it's 200x harder than it looks...the smaller the dent the harder it is to remove. plus it all depends on the panel that it's on and how the panel is curved and everything. It's pretty much impossible for anyone to give u advice unless they see it from all angles. At my shop we have the dent guy that comes down all the time to remove small dings and shit. He has this magnet that goes on the car w/ a long snake head and a reflective surface on the other end. He uses this to reflect light onto the dent making it easier to see. Then he uses like 4 different poking devices, all w/ different tips and angles...they are like 3 feet long and he has to play with them for a while. He's a pro and he still has trouble. Plus u have to make sure u don't push it out too far which is very easy to do. And if u do u have to have a small body hammer to SLOWLY flatten it down. And last but not least u ALWAYS....start from the outer edges of the dent and work ur way to the center while slowly pusshing it out. Hope this helps and good luck!!

Ant,

that actually helps out a lot -- thank you for responding. I think you're right .. i should leave it to the pro's. However, if i try it tonight, i'll start from the outside and "massage" it inwards... i'll let you know how it turns out

I removed the trunk lining tonight, and had perfect access to my dent. I used a series of handles of screwdrivers to gently massage the ding out... I got 80% of it out, and I must say it looks MUCH better. It went from being a blatant, very noticeable ding, to one of those dents where you have to point it out before you realize it's there. Thanks for the tip Ant.
