Grilltech Grille Owners happy w/purchase ?

Those CL owners who have purchased the grilltech grilles through ST2000, is everyone happy with the look of their grilles.

I plan on getting just the lower part (I like the stock top part IMO)
I am going to get the chrome looking one with the circle holes in it. I know some people say, too flashy, but I kind of like flash.
My car is Taf white, any opinions are appreciated..

I'm happy with the way it mine looks, however I had to spend some time with the dremel to 'trim' some of the upper grill because it wasn't cut exactly to fit. I'm also having some problem with the road lamp covers because one side was > 1/2" shorter than the other side, which doesn't look right ... and also the positioning of the grill on one of these two units doesn't match up with the rest of the look (kinda hard to explain in words) ... but I'm working on an idea to invert the offensive grill and recess them both in the plastic roadlamp filler. The part you are considering getting is the easiest unit to deal with as all you have to do is zip-tie it into place ... however if your going chrome you might have to be careful as to which color zipties you decide to use.

There was a considerable amout of trimming involved.

I painted mine gunmetal metallic, looks sweet.

hmm interesting comments Chris and Y2k3, because he does state that it is cut to just fit right in. I will probably try to get some silver zip ties, figure that would not be as noticable on the chrome.

I'm happy with the top & bottom grill. I also had to do a little bit of trimming to get a good fit.

I know ... PM'd Sam when they were received, and his reply was:
"Glad to hear you have received the grills and happy with them.
Yes I recall that one of the vent grills is slightly shorter than the other. They're supppose to be exactly the same with each other, but this should affect the installation process. But if you really like them to be exactly the same size, you could try to take the rubber gasket off and cut a bit off the edges with a metal cutter.
Anyhow, once installed, the difference would be hardly noticeable.
One of my vent grills is actually like yours, but i didn't even notice which one's the bigger or smaller one when i was installing them.
In any case, if you have any questions or problem with installation, please let me know.

Thanks,
Sam"
Problem is, there is a noticable difference (to me anyway) with the difference in size, and with the grill patterns not being identical either (again hard to explain, but has to do with where the pattern looks straight and where it looks angled) - the idea to recess the vent grills came to mind and I'm going to attack this next. One benefit is that this will also help the Icebox to get more air when I'm done.

i got the upper and lower grill

the upper one required a lot of work for it to fit.

the lower one fit fine but the way it used zip-tie to hold it in place was not the best imo.....because the vibration during drive, it cause quite a few scratches on the black housing.

but what can i said......it looks great....i'm loving it.

btw my is black dimond on silver.

good luck

It took about 1.5 hours to get it just right with a pair of sharp tin-snips. It looks good now that it's painted & installed, but I think I will explore other avenues when I do my 01.

Hey hey hey, how come i didn't notice there's a thread about my grilles. I'm glad that you all like the grilles. I see that some of you in the second and onwards group orders might have required to trim the screw holes for the upper grille. Initially I pre-cut them around the screw holes so it'll be ready to install in the first group order, but it turned out that some people were having problems with fitment. Therefore, in the second and onwards group orders, I decided that it's best to just leave the screw holes out, so each of you can trim them to fit you individual grille frame nicely.
Overall, the vents grilles are the hardest to make, because they're a pair and need to be identical with one another.

Grille installation tip: To make your installation look cleaner, push the rubber gasket outwards to the edge of the grille, this way the gap around the grille will be minimized. I purposedly designed the grilles to be a little smaller than the grille spaces to avoid metal expansion problem in extreme heat.
For the lower grille, I didn't pre-bend the grille because it's shipped in a flat box, but be sure to pre-bend the grille before installation so that it'll fit the contour of the lower section nicely.
Alright, if you have any questions pm me or email at samconnect@hotmail.com

Thanks,
Sam
