Great drive on Highway 1 !! (long story)
WOOOOOOOOO
Monday morning we set off from Monterey down to San Simeon on Highway 1 and I had the best driving experience of my life. The drive began behind several slower vehicles through the beautiful twisties. Got past a few slower travelers and was held up again behind another Chevy Cavilier :o. With no place to pass and the driver unwilling to pull over despite multiple light flashings / honks / and the 10 cars behind him, we were all held up for several minutes. At this point I was and decided to sit back and enjoy the ride instead of the drive, if you know what I mean. But then something caught my eye... now directly behind me was an older Mustang GT350 type car (not sure exactly what it was), obviously set up for road race, with an agressive stance, throaty engine and numbers on the side. And what's this... a BMW Z8 behind him . Now poised again for spirited driving, the Cavalier finally gives way and we proceed. Not exactly sure how the guys behind me wanted to play I gradually got on it in 4th gear on a staightaway to see if they would follow. The Mustang maintained the gap behind, but the Z8 had other ideas... slides into the other lane and comes WHALING by us. I was and then . I was going about 90mph when he passed (went to 0% throttle because there was a car coming the other way), and he woofed by us probably going 120+mph. The sound was awesome!! I tried in vain to catch up but he quickly disappeared through the corners. The Cavalier actually did a good thing and held up traffic for so long there were no cars for miles! For 20+ MILES through the twisties and straights on Highway 1 the Mustang and I flew. At one point I dropped into a turnout to let him pass so he could lead for a while. We definitely weren't pushing it, only running about 7/10 but maintained 70-80mph for many many miles unihibited by traffic or stoplights! It was wonderful!! What a very capable and AWESOME car to drive...

I wish I could of been there behind you in my car getting some more video of you and your six speed rocket in all it's furry!! That would of been fun. I haven't really tried my car out on a road like that. Would be cool to switch cameras and lead car to get some good video and background shots. I wish I was there

I love the California central coast. It's definitely one of the prettiest sites in the world. I've spent two anniversaries near San Simeon.
I bet it's fun in the M/T CL Type S too!

Sounds like some of my old trips in the seventies from L.A. to Laguna Seca or the San Jose Mile. LOTS less traffic on 1 in those days You know you are getting old when you start telling remember when stories.
