Like I stated earlier, no sense getting into a "my dad can beat up your dad" - type argument since I know plenty of Mustangs that run much, much lower than high 11s...

I realize there are examples of very fast diesel trucks. I don't think anyone is disputing that here.

well, he did specify stock... are you saying a stock cummins turbodiesel (of any vintage) is capable of better than 16 second 1/4 miles in stock trim? I'd love to ride in that truck.

I did get to ride in a '91 3/4 ton cummins turbodiesel this past weekend. it was pathetically stock (pathetic in the 1/4 mile sense, not in the towing-a-house sense, btw) and despite our best (torque braking) efforts, we were unable to outrun (or even keep up with) a stockish integra down sydney baker rd in kerrville tx.

pity. and, from what you guys say, it was a fairly fresh motor as well - only 149,000 mi on the clock.

anyway, we can certainly all get together so you guys can spank my (stock) acura with your (modified) trucks, but then I get to spank your (modified) trucks with my (modified) bike. sound fair? :P

a '91 3/4T is a 160hp truck. A '00 or newer truck .. auto 215hp, 5spd 235, 6spd(HO) 245/505ftlb. with tricky shifting and a little abuse a stock HO would be in the high 16-17 sec (@80-85mph)range. a box and a set of injectors will get it to the low 15s. from there it gets harder.

Don't forget that the truck will pull better and get better mileage while doing this.

A 94-98 12V truck can be gotten to the 350hp with few parts and some shadetree knowhow.

No, a 7000# stock truck won't outrun a 2800# car with the same HP.
even a modified truck, or car for that matter will not out run a stock bike. under 400# and over 100hp is hard to beat.

ah... I'm just givin' you a hard time, there, mule...

it was pretty amusing imagining that old 3/4 ton running quick 1/4 miles and taking down unsuspecting car owners...

(but those old school ram interiors... )
