very realistic stories

Stock BMW 540i both step and 6 speed would prolly beat CL-S w/o breaking any sweat. Afterall, they cost almost double than your CL-S. Even after you put intake and exhaust, I doubt CL-S can beat 540i step, leave alone the 6 speed version. Those 540i are the ultimate driving machine.
Anyhow, good race!

Good thread, I walked on a 528i today, he had cali plates. WTF was he doing in minneapolis in january??? he's trying to go 85 down the freeway, just didn't understand that here in MN, we don't speed like that ... well I do ... nobody else does ... anyways, he had to drop to 50, cause our gramma's do that in the left lane, i got her down in second, once he gunned it, i was all over him, pass him in the right lane .... lit him up big time!!!!

Re: very realistic stories

anything can happen in a street race...there are factual reports of CLS' taking down 540s.

I actually had a 528i up my ass on day going to the track a while ago. I couldn't shake this guy at all! I didn't gain on him at 80+ or even 100MPH+. Either lots of engine work, or rebadged 540 to 528. Everything outside looked stock, couldn't see the wheels (as they were turning).

It's a Shame, all you guys need is a Sc'ed Jeep GCL

Then not many cars will be a problem. And no one will expect it.

I'm sorry I just want one of my own so bad

The 540 Auto is not that fast....although I give it up to the 6spd...those things are monsters.

Yeah, the autos aren't as quick off the line. Now the auto sports package come with a 3.15 differential thus giving it more off the line capabiliites. My problem off the line (I have 540iA SP) is that I peel out too much and i sit there burning rubber. On the highway, well, not many cars can keep up.

Re: Re: very realistic stories

Agree on anything can happen on the street. However. given equal driver and response time, a straight line drag 540ia would win CL-S with slight mods. I have yet to see a magazine test CLS do 60 in less than 6sec whereas 540ia has been tested 5.9s by Car and driver. No offense, but I feel that the horses in the 540 is more powerful than the CL-S. Might it be because it's RWD? Also, even tho Acura has much shorter gearing, the 540 feels much more powerful (torquey).

All v8s feel more powerful..its the torque which tends to be byproduct of having 8 cylinders v. 6. The tradeoff is that v8s tend to nose off faster in revs. I'll say this....a stock 540 Auto v. a CL-S with I/H....pretty even match, at the strip and on the street.

I agree, but on the Non Sport models, as they don't take off as quick for some odd reason (maybe the 3.15 diff. makes a difference vs. the 2.87 the non sports have).

Also some companies (BMW/Lexus/Benz) are conservative with hp numbers while others list anything resembling 1hp (Nissan/Infiniti Acura).

While I may agree with BMW and Audi being conservative with HP figures (the S4 and older M3 come to mind), Lexus should not be included in that list. Their cars perform like their HP figures suggest. Also, my 260 hp Acura with a 5-speed Auto and 3500+ lbs performs what it should.

Why do you say you have headers in your post and in your sig it says headers on the way? And he only beat you by 1 car length. So maybe you Know less than you think, and maybe you are the one who's a liar. Those headers make a big diff dude. I'm not trying to be too much of a dick but get your story straight kid.

I can't believe I'm the only one who noticed that shit.

Yes Headers make a difference but not enough to beat a 540 to lets say 100mph. When I had H/I/E/VAFC tuned, I was by myself and my buddy had 2 golf bags and another passenger in his 540 and to 70 I lost by 1.5 car length and he was still pulling. Now, this was a TL not TLS. I can't imagine the 35 HP making THAT much of a difference.

But you're right I noticed it too, but didn't say anything.

AC, I wish there was some way I could "peel out"!! LOL

Just aint gonna happen for me, even in wet. Takes the fun outta it when on a wet skidpad : (. All I do is get traction and more traction , then PLOW!!!!!!! LOL The instructor had to yak on the e brake just as I hit the brakes and we did finally get the rear to drift a bit, then the dang thing got traction again!!
Hows your friends S4 doing? Have you been able to get to the track yet? We have done some things to a coupla A6's and need to hit Carlsbad soon to see if any improvement. One Tip and one 6 speed. Tip ran 14.0 and 6 speed 13.6, and we are hoping for Tip to run 13.6-13.7 and 6 speed 13.3-13.4.
What was it you added on the 540? Saw one out here that had a nice staggered setup and looked real mean , all hunkered down.
We've been drifting away from the straight stuff and are now getting the road track bug. Have added Stoptech brakes, SSR competitions (15.5lbs) each and some Victoracer tires(Kumho's). been going to a track called Willow and Streets of Willow. Laguna Seca will be next if we can find a group doing a driving event. Kind of fun hauling the boat around a road course and its helping me become a better driver on the street if something bad happens, maybe I can avoid the accident. I usually just attend the driving schools that do dry/wet skidpad and teach you accident avoidance and such. Oops sorry for rambling on.
