got a cls 6spd, odd rattling noise

Hey guys, just got a 2003 cls 6 speed last week, 25,000 miles and I soon came accross this forum and its great. Tons of useful info about our cars.

Anyways, i was wondering if anyone had an issue with an odd rattling noise coming from the passanger side. Kinda sounds like a tiny screw rolling around in the bottom of a glass jar. It really only happens on small bumps and when I have the radio up and the bass jiggles it.

Just want to see if anyone has an idea before I make an appoitment with the dealership.

Thanks!

Yeh, there are a lot of rattles with this car. See what the dealer says.

And welcome to the forum.

Congrats, I love red, Interior color?
Guess I'm lucky, no rattles. I've had 2 6 speeds and one had a sunroof squeak fixed at dealer.
Did you check all cavities, the door pocket, all the compartments? at least it sounds like an easier rattle than some others. goo luck.

it has the parchment interior i think thats what they call it. Tan colored, looks good.

If i take it to the dealership are they going to tear apart my dashboard to find this rattle? or to what extent do they go to try to resolve it?

I've had an auto & the 6 speed, both are rattle free.

Is it the pasanger door, or the passanger side of the dash? Could something be rattling in the glove box or door pocket? There's a fuse panel at the end of each side of the dash, maybe something is loose in there? I'd try to find it before taking it to a dealer.

Rattle ?

I've got a 6spd SMR with 9K miles. I've been getting a rattle from the glovebox area or under the passenger side airbag. I drove it down to my dealer (2 hours away) and they couldn't find anything because it was a warm day. Seems it only appears during the colder weather. Good Luck !

The car has a couple of small rattles in cold weather. One that you mentioned near the passenger side dash, someone here diagnosed as actually coming from the hood. I fixed mine by simply raising the hood stops a bit.

I find that if no one is sitting in the passenger seat and the seatbelt is hooked around the guide on the seat then sometimes the buckle will rattle against that plastic guide. If you let the seatbelt hang freely off the guide then there's no rattle.

I don't know if that's your problem but it's worth a check.

For what it's worth, I have had a rattle from the glovebox area from time to time. I have been able to stop the rattle by opening the glovebox and just 'adjusting' the clips that hold the glovebox on each side - no rocket science here, but it seemed to make a distinct difference.

Welcome!! Rattles are very few and all depends on the suspension mods.

Many Rattles...

I have an '03 CL-S and I had the horrible trunk rattle! Which was easily located after finding the source on this forum. The other rattle that I have seems to be coming from inside the dash, and sounds like it is behind the air vents. I am gonna have the dealer check this one out when I go in for the 45K service.

This car definitley is a rattle trap!

humm I am at 38k and no rattle at all. I did have a small one from the rear speaker cover but a little TLC for that area solved the problem.

Rattles also are temperture dependant...

You guys in the south won't get them... Us guys up north get more especially when the temp is around freezing (32 degrees Fahrenheit).

I never really had too many rattles back in WI and just afew rattles that come and go now in FL, just rolled 66k and just lowered it. Overall it has been fairly rattle free. My roommate had a 330i and it was really rattle free, but ill pocket the 9k price difference and live with a rattle here and there. The only odd noise my car made was when driving on ice or snow when it was well below freezing and the tires were spinning out...there was a loud grinding noise....didn't know if it was the differental not working well in the really cold weather.

Congrats and enjoy. When I first got my '03 CLS 6MT, I noticed a rattle in the center console. It turned out to be a loose screw.

I just had a dashboard rattle fixed. It had originally sounded like it was coming from the drivers side but it turned out to be the Passenger front airbag. I found it by having my friend drive the car and me press on things on the dash.

I took it to the dealer and this was their work order that they gave back to me.

road test reveled rattle in dash area near air bag. Was able to simulate noise, stopped noise by depressing on bag. Removed glove box to remove Road tested with air bag out and had no noise. Air bag was laying on the back seat making a rattle noise.
ended up ordering a new air bag
