Got Brakes?

Got my 01 CL Type S about 2 weeks ago. Love everything about it except the brakes. Maybe I'm being biased because I just got rid of my Audi TT and it would literally stop in 106ft 60-0. Anyhow, I'm sure some of you all have done brake upgrades, so tell me what works best. Just new front rotors? All the way around? New calipers? Brands? Etc. Thanks!

Okay well, I forgot to post that I was running Brembo GT 328mm on the front. Also, mine was the 180 FWD coupe, weighing in at just 2900 lbs, unlike the bulkier quattro 225's roadsters that push almost 3500 lbs. I notice that the stock CL-Type S does 70-0 in just 178 ft. Which isn't bad, considering it's 3500+ curb weight. But quite a contrast from what I was used to. So do you have any upgrades or suggestions?

yeah bro, everyone knows that Brembo makes the best brakes, why you asking questions if you already had brembos. Go get them. I got mine and love them

I'm asking questions because I just got this CL and every car has different handling & weight characteristics. I'd rather do the research and get some valid information from people that have already upgraded there brake systems. So when I ask, "front rotors only? All the way around?", i'm asking what exact brake setups and models you all are using. I'm very well aware that Brembo makes some of the best out there. But I was limited on systems for my Audi TT, if there had been an equal and more affordable system out there when I was looking, I would have gladly gotten something more cost effective. I know I can go out and spend $2,500 dollars and have world class braking. But wouldn't it be nice if someone out there new of an equal system for $1,500, or less?

in that case, go with Rotora. I think they're around $1300. I don't have them but have ridden in a car with them and they feel pretty amazing.

Yea, i've heard a lot of good things about rotora. I'm really starting to wonder though if its worth the extra $$ and time to get the upgraded calipers, or if I would see somewhat equal results with just a good set of slotted/drilled rotors up front and back with an awesome set of pads. Saving myself a lot of green $$. =)

that's prolly the way i'm gonna go if I ever get around to it. I don't think you'll reap the complete benefits of a big brake kit unless you drive the twisities, or autox weekly.

the matter of "worth" is subjective. to be honest, if you don't track your vehicle, the big brake kits are only good for "looks" and can shave off perhaps 5-10 feet off your 70-0/100-0. you'll likely see better improvements by getting stickier tires, better pads. (naturally improved traction = accelerated wear-n-tear). pick your poison, my friend. pick your poison.

with that said, i have no regrets with mine

Nicely said usc

For people in the bay area, I drove up Saratoga-Sunnyvale one night with my g/f up to Windy Hill. Nice twisties on that road (~7miles or so). It was a good opportunity to test out the brakes and it felt much better than the last time I went with the stocks. With 20mph & 15mph turns, the extra braking power & just more confidence in braking helps a lot.
