gas mileage with the AEM...

How was your gas mileage affected after installation of the AEM cai? I have the AEM v2 for my 03 CL-P and my gas mileage went down so much. I used to get around 200 miles at half a tank, now after about 3 weeks of having the AEM v2 my gas mileage went to about 130 at half a tank. This is really shitty, i thought the aftermarket intakes are suppose to increase the gas mileage.

I am driving like I normally did before and after I got the AEM V2.

Any ideas as to why this is happening?

I am contemplating on going back to the stock intake.

would it have been possible that some other component in my engine got messed up while in the installation process? o2 sensor or something else...?

by adding an intake i thought gas mileage was supposed to increase, unless you have a lead foot on the throttle

thats what i thought to, but some people i know disagree and say that adding intake allows more air to get in and also makes the car burn the gas quicker..is that right?

***UPDATE****

So i switched out my AEM V2 and had a professional place put back the stock intake. I still seem to be having shitty gas mileage like i did with the AEM v2 (~130-140 miles at half tank). Now does anyone know what the problem could be?

Again, I don't hit wot or vtec very much, i usually cruise at around 2k rpm.

is it possible that the place I took it to install the stock intake incorrectly? (i doubt this because this is a reputable import car place)

Maybe something is working incorrectly that could be fixed by warranty?

Any help would be appreciated

My gas mileage started to drop before i put intake on so I can't say what my intake did to my gas mileage, but now my EGR went bad, maybe yours EGR is starting to go bad.

Car came with the AEM. But I noticed an increase when I got the Icebox. And in my other car, I saw an increase when I switched intakes to a performance one. I think you should have seen it stay the same or marginally get better.

try checking the fuel filter, spark plugs etc. usual culprits of decreases gas mileage.

I got 120-130 half tanks (17=/- MPG) before installing the AEM intake.

I noticed a slight increase with the aem, now getting about 200 @ half way point (highway driving) Did you put larger wheels on your car?

430Mi/tank freeway

You want to save gas money > gap down your plugs near .8 to minimize misfiring and let your engine burn all the injected gas!
I used to get only 130Mi at half tank now I am getting 430Mi/tank freeway with a lot more power and an easy ride. I don't have to give it more gas to drive over the hills on Hw280 (SF Bay).
Plug with narrowed gap improves engine balance and low rpm torque witch is exactly what we need for pickup and freeway driving.

I don't know why Honda gaps our plugs near 1.05 with these ignition coils... My wife's new TL'05 has the same weak spark problem. So I am guessing the problem is with the coils thus we all have weak spark.
Unfortunately there is no performance coils available for our car aftermarket. AcDelco sells the same OEM part for $38.00 instead of $60 Acura. I am not paying for coils with exact same stock No.
Save your money, keep your stock double platinum plugs. They are good for 100KMi. What makes the difference is the gap not the material. The tiny .4mm iridium center electrode helps a bit but I am not positive they are worth the cash. Do stay away from the Bosh +4: you could drive a bus in the gap and it can hardly be adjusted.
