friggin a....my car drinks like a fratboy
yo...anyone else with the 6spd notice that our car goes through gas like no other? i had to fill the tank up after 5 days of moderate driving. please tell me the mileage gets better after i break it in (300 miles on the odometer)....it's pretty crazy when i look down and the gas meter has gone down 2 clicks from when i started the car...

I agree. I got 17~19 MPG on my first 2000 miles. Dealer said the engine is still breaking in, but I think it's BS. An engine like that doesn't need that much time to break in, not even a 3 cylinder Geo.
Anybody has same experience??

I'd say if the problem exists after 1000 miles, have it taken in to a dealer that CARES and make them check it out. That's not right when the sales sheet says 19/26 or whatever the mpg rating claim is.

no, i've noticed that if you floor it, you get shit. i've gotten as good as 31 on the highway and as bad as 16 when i really floor it. for 1 tank, try to go really really gentle. i mean really gentle. you'll see improvement.

6speed or 5AT, if you drive it hard you're mileage will go bye bye. I'm happy when i average 20 any more. I was over 21 for awhile and then i put the 40 series Toyos on, dropped to 19 overnight !!

300 on a tank is an absolute minimum. On the highway, 400+ is easily doable.
I don't know your shifting style but I try to keep it in as high a gear as possible without lugging the engine. I very rarely get into vtec rpms. I save that for special occassions.
I'm quite satisfied with fuel mileage as it delivers what I expected. Too bad it uses premium but it's understandable considering the compression ratio.

Where is my super sauce?
I agree with the Klam.
For city driving I'm getting about 19- 20mpg now. My first two tanks were pure 'city' tanks and I got 16-17mpg. It did seem to get better.
I've not done a pure highway tank, but from my estimation I'm getting close to 30mpg for highway driving.
It looks like things are evening out at the EPA estimates (19/29, if I recall correctly).
For my average day-to-day driving I don't rev the car high. I'm usually shifting in the mid to high 3000's for economy.

I came from a 97' Integra to the 6 speed, so it's been a shock on a number of levels - premium gas, larger tank and lower mpg. I just passed 3000 miles and last night's nights fill up worked out to about 22 mpg gallon. I am probably 50/50 on this tank city/highway. The numbers on the 1st tank worked out to 20 mpg. So I am still waiting (hoping) for a little better milage.
Yes I do get on it every now and again. Epecially when fellow commuters stay in the unobstructed view lane. Other than that I am typically fairly easy on the pedal generally shifting between 3500-4500.

I'm not sure of the gearing on the CLS, but if you want better gas mileage you should be doing shifts from 1st to 4th (maybe 3rd? Like I said I dunno how it's geared) instead of running through all the gears.

well the first tank of gas i kept hitting my personal rpm threshold for the breakin perios (4000), just cause it was fun...my last car was a volvo
...and i did hit vtec once to impress my friend and cousin...but this tank i'm usually shifting at about 2500 and still eating gas like a mutha...but i'm guessing acura didn't do their city testing in orlando cause driving here is like stopping and going every light (and weaving in and out of the idiot tourists)...and i've only taken the highway twice...so i'm guessing that's why my mileage eats a dick...but at least i get to look forward to after my breakin period for the better mileage.

I have filled my tank 6 times... here are the results:
23.37 MPG
28.86
28.31
25.91
28.77
26.79
For an overall average of 27.00 MPG. This is about 25% city / 75% highway. Regardless, it takes very little sacrifice to improve mileage significantly... use the A/C less, ease into the throttle instead of putting it to the floor right off the line...

For the record, I get anywhere between 17 and 26.
Most of my daily driving gets me 19-20 MPG.

My sons and I just completed a 4000 mile road trip to Colorado. My best leg was 29.1 mpg and we averaged 26.5mpg for the entire trip. The car had at least an extra 500#, the a/c on continuosly, and 1500 miles of that was 2 lane mountain driving at 7500 to 12000 feet altitude.
Considering the "sport" nature of our car, I am very pleased with the gas mileage.
