First time at the track

Never raced before. I took my stock CL Type S to run the .25 mile. Here is my best time out of 4.

RT .903
60ft 2.326
ET 15.048
MPH 92.46

How does this compare? Anyone have times for a stock Type S? With mods?

That's pretty good time for a newbie at the track. Keep practicing more, and you should hit those high 14's. Yeah welcome to the board

VSA was off, and I was shifting. I think S-Shift helps, but only by a fraction if any...

So, after my best time i was messin with Brake Torqueing. I think when i get this down, and get better weather...I can easily get under 14.9.

That was definately the most fun I have had in my car yet. I'll be back again.

You need to also let some air out of your front tires to increase the contact patch. A little bit of traction in the first 60' will make a difference in the end.

Any suggestions on tire PSI? I have been told that, but not sure what amount is the best. I will definately be letting some out the next time. I still need to stop skipping off the launch.

I forget how much PSI you need to let out. It has been over a year since the last time I raced. And that was with my old hybrid. But you will be suprise about how much you need to let out. Just remember that after you let it out, you need to have a way to pump it back up, so you can get home! That was always my problem, I could never let out enough because I didn't have a compressor to pump it back up.

That's pretty good, especially for your maiden voyage to the track. The key to shaving off a few tenths is always in the first 60', practice and dropping your tires to 24-25 psi will help your grip a lot.

Other things you can do are typical stuff, make sure you let your car cool off after you drive to the track. Ice the intake, take out the spare. Put the rear tires up to the maximum psi your tires will allow (40-45?).

If you don't want to pay for a small compressor (next time you go racing), just buy a cheap manual air pump, like the ones for bicycle tires. They'll work fine to pump up your car tires and cost less than $10.

Or the electric ones that plug in the cigarete lighter. They take a while but cost less than $30. I always keep one of these in the trunk (mainly in a case of a flat tire which means that I will have to fill up the spare which I always forget to check its pressure during the weekly check of all other 4 tires)
