first speeding tix last night and need advice
last night around 2, my friends and i were trying to find the runs then we came across an empty road so my friend goes "lets see how fast you can go in a 1/4 mile" so i say ok, i floor it then a cop comes out of the cut and stops me. he said he let me off easy cuz he dint take me to juve, impound my car, it dint charge me for a misdemeanor for chirping. so he gave me an infraction for speeding so bascially a speeding tix for going 80 in a 25 zone. so what's going to happen to me? i'm 17 and need help. how do i do this without my mom finding out? how much will i be fined for? will i have to go to court? suspension of license? all of the above? a point on my dmv record? how long would the point last? can i do this without my mom noticing? will the insurance go up? this happened near great america in santa clara. someone please help me!!!!!! and what do i do? and what will probably happen?

HA!!! THat's what he tells you!! 80 in a 25 is reckless driving...a mandatory court appearance and at least a 2 pointer. Speeding..1 point. If he's a dick...exhibition of speed...another 2 points. Get a lawyer. Even then you're looking at a suspended license until you're 21...and fees mouonting close to $1500...not to mention the lawyer fees...another 1K. BTW, after what happened in Union City last night...there's not gonna be any sympathy for you. I'm not trying to get down on you bro...but that's reality right now.

Keeping this from your parents is not only not going to happen, it is in your best interest to not try.
You should tell you mom immediately. Trust me, I was your age once and it is better to plan out how you will tell her then to be suprised when she finds out and catches you off guard.
Just get your story straight (tell the truth), let her know that you understand what you did was wrong and take your lumps.

You're lucky they didn't yank your license right there on the spot. And as for your mom not finding out...well, you're out of luck. You're under 18, which means she's gonna find out, because she'll have to pay for the lawyer since you can't enter into a contract as a minor.
Going 80 in a 25...you will end up with a suspended license, ridiculous insurance rates for the next 3-5 years, and empty pockets to pay that kind of fine plus a lawyer. Don't believe what the officer told you without independently checking it out. It is possible he did not tell you the whole story.
And when the word "convicted" was mentioned, they meant if you go to court and are found guilty of speeding you're convicted. If you just pay the fine, you've admitted guilt and are convicted of the infraction. That doesn't mean jail time. And if you are convicted, it will mean a hell of a lot more points than one on your record. And yes, you damn well need a lawyer with a ticket like this.
How do I know? I'm a lawyer, so no flames please.

If you decide to lie. Do a damn good job of it. Remember that this isn't just one of those simple lies to your mom. You may have to tell this story many times. You don't want it changing. Especially in front of a judge.

First of all, relax! Calm down a little man. I had this type of situation not too long ago. (80 in a 25? Not bad. I had 90 in a 15). Anyways, you don't really need a lawyer. Your case isn't that serious. I don't think it is worth the money for a lawyer. Really depends on what your mom plans on doing, and no matter what, she will have to find out eventually, because you will have to go to court. The court date is probably written on your citation (ticket). When you go to court, you'll have to bring a parent because you're a minor. So just tell your mom and face the consquences. The outcome will probably depend on how nice your judge is. My first ticket I had a 52 in a 35. I had to go to traffic school and pay the fine. My second ticket I had a 78 in a 50. When I went to court again, my license got suspended for 1 month. Then a month later, I got my racing ticket, and that is a whole other story that I'll tell later. So point is, even if you get a really nice judge, you probably won't be as lucky just to get traffic school. Your license will probably be suspended for I'd say about a month or two. The fine will be maybe upwards of 200 bucks. Also, it will go on your DMV record unless you're allowed to go to traffic school, in which case it won't go on your record. And as for the insurance, depends on your record. For this first time, it probably won't be a drastic increase. I'm speaking from my own experiences here in California. Other states might be different, but since you are in CA, expect something like what I just said to happen. Hope this helps.

If you go to Juvenile court you will have to go with your parent/guardian. So you might as well tell your mom now.
Since you are a minor it is a little different than fighting a ticket as an adult.
Since you were given an Infraction instead of a Misdemeanor you will likely have a fine + some sort of restriction on your license (i.e. to an from work / school and home).
And you did get off kinda lite, if the cop wanted to he could fucked your year.
This applies to LA county but it gives you some info on the Juvenile Traffic Court process:
http://www.lasuperiorcourt.org/juvenile/traffic.htm
http://www.lasuperiorcourt.org/juvenile/traffic.htm
Sup kid, looks like you're in some shit. Assuming this is your first ticket, here is what you do. Call Randolph Sprinkles at the San Jose Traffic Clinic (check Yahoo! SF Bay Yellow Pages for the #) and tell him your situation. If you have not had a ticket, you MAY be able to just get traffic school. But in all likelihood the violation he put you down for is a 2 pointer. If it is, then no traffic school (without a lawyer.) If it is only a 1 pointer then you can take traffic school without a lawyer and nobody will find out unless you get another ticket in the next 18 months.
But if it IS a 2 pointer, then call this guy and he'll get it taken off, no problem. He's not going to tell you what his amazing defense strategy will be. He will basically tell you that he has judge buddies who will dismiss it. So you'll get it reduced down to a 1 pointer and get to take traffic school. Just dont get a ticket in the next 18. And you have to pay him about 350 plus the ticket fine.
I got caught on 85 south last July going 105 in a 65 (2 points for speed in excess of 100), 1 point for excess lane changes, and 1 point for running a red light after i took the exit. The cop was a prick (but I admit I did fuck up) and told me I was going to rot in hell, see you in court, etc... but I got it all taken off with the lawyer.
So don't worry... just be prepared to fork over some dough.

Yeah, its me again. Dont listen to these people who say you're going to fork over more than a G, suspended license, cutting your testicles off, etc. It will not result in any of these. But I'm not sure how different juvenille traffic court violation is.
Anyway, call that lawyer ASAP and just ask him for his advice. He's a nice guy.
Also, do not panic, kid. I know it seems like you just did the worst thing in the world or something, but its a mistake and you're young... everyone makes 'em. Just be glad its ONLY A TICKET! When I got my ticket a year ago I posted a similar thing (but more apologetic) about my ticket (described above) and got bombed on several, several times and it just made me feel worse. I know how you feel. Don't worry about it... just slow your ass down.
Lighten up on the kid, fellas. Trust me, messing with a kid's mind like that is not good.

Definitely tell your mom...and do it immediately. Being a minor, there is no possibility of keeping it from her. And be prepared to take your lumps. What you did was considered reckless driving and to be honest, if you were my kid, you'd rather have the cops haul you to jail than deal with me when you got home. But then, if you were my kid, you wouldn't be driving around in a $30,000+ automobile at age 17. You'll pay out the butt, you may get your license suspended, and some other wonderful life lessons. Whether or not to hire a lawyer will be your mom's decision, being that she is the legal guardian. In fact, everything is going to be in her hands from this point forward, so you'd better be up front with her. I just hope you have learned early enough in life that racing is best left on the track. You have too much to lose.
And one more thing kid (and I know I'll get flamed into next week for this but being a dad of two young ones I really don't care). I've read a lot of self-righteous crap from many posters in here, both in this thread and in the one about the racing fatality in San Jose. A lot of hot air about "how stupid they are" and "how you shouldn't race on the street", blah, blah, blah. I took the liberty of running a search and found that most (NOT ALL, but most) people who were telling you to slow down and saying you're crazy, etc, also had plenty of posts of their own in the "Racing Stories" forum about all the racing THEY were doing on the street. So don't get caught up in all of their grandstanding because it's pretty clear that they haven't got a CLUE as to how serious this kind of thing really is.
Go talk to your mom.

And forget all he bullsh1t about lying (and making sure to keep it straight for everybody). It's terrible advice because the toughest thing to do is keep a lie from unraveling and when it does you've got zippo credibility.
Some folk here are butt talking.

I wasn't being self-righteous....you get caught...you get caught...I was merely stating what will happen. As for your SELF-RIGHTEOUSNESS...you act like you never drove 1mph over the speed limit in your life...Please!
I whole-heartedly believe in street racing...knowing when your going too fast is the key!

GreenHornet: great post.
Kid... If you have to have your mom go with you throughout this (and I guess you do, but I'm unfamiliar with the juvenille traffic process) then tell her ASAP. It never helps to lie to your parents. If you are upfront with your mom, she'll get pissed for sure... but when she calms down she'll feel better that you told her rather her find out some other way.
Anyway, great post GreenHornet about some of these hypocrites.

Thanks JATLIFE...looks like moomaster is living proof that some people just don't get it.
Of course I have gone over the speed limit. And NO, it wasn't OK when I did it. It was dead wrong, and I was young and PRETTY STUPID. But I won't take it any farther because you believe in street racing so having a friend killed means I should just chalk it up to them not "knowing they were going too fast" right?
"You get caught, you get caught". Oh really? What if you get KILLED? What if you kill someone else? What if it's a close friend or a loved one? What about your beliefs then? Do you believe in the tooth fairy too? And what about the lady in the Volvo who was killed in that accident? How does she figure into your senseless equation of "knowing when you're going too fast"? Do you think she should have lost her life because some other morons BELIEVED in street racing?
Bottom line moomaster...there is NO justification for street racing. I know it happens and will continue to happen but get real. It's illegal and it's damn dangerous, not just for those involved but for innocent bystanders too.

Get an attorney...I just spent 200 for an attorney for a stop sign ticket. I have no points but paid the 95.00 fine. He represented me in court, I didn't even have to go. Tis the price you pay...
You know what...whatever I say will never be right to you. You have your belief...and truth be told I can respect it. Everyone should know that driving at a high rate of speed can get you killed. So, what about the people that go to sanctioned racing events and a car flies off the track and lands in the middle of the audience watching the race??? Does that mean that they shouldn't race?? Those people are innocent victims too.
If you wanna know for sure what I really think. I think that things happen in this world that no one has control of and that this incident is tragic. But no less different than driving on the freeway and getting into an accident in which someone's tire blows out or someone loses control and takes out other cars...Does it suddenly become the driver's wrong? They were doing 65mph or so and killed someone innocent...should that person be to blame? Your sense of right and wrong is very Black and White...unfortunately, this world is full of gray......

dude,
For your ticket under code & section what's the # did the cop wrote? and is there a letter A, B, or C after it?
The reason I asked to see if you can go to traffic school depends on this.
Your fine should be around $250.00-$400.00
You should tell your parent about this too.
