first oil change and other things

hit 1000 miles on my 2 months old CLS, just wondering if i should have the oil changed. I was told new car should have first oil change at 1k.

I should be able to have oil change at the dealer for free, right?

I think the cars have break in oil that should be in the car till 3575. Thats when I got my first oil change. also they said don't use syn. oil until 7500. The service guy was saying thats what honda of america recommends.

wait until you reach 3500 miles or above...

you need to break in the car with factory oil

be patient!

I believe the exact number is 3,750 miles.
That's when I did mine.

Some people say that you should change your oil after the first thousand miles because of the metal shavings that happen during break in. This may have applied 20 years ago when detroits engine manufacturing was very poor. They used to have very lose manufacturing tolerances and there would be metal on metal wear that caused shavings in the first thousand miles. Today the tolerances are very tight and metal shavings in the motor oil are indeed rare. Besides that is what an oil filter is for. Based on 7,500 oil change intervals the Acura/Honda engines should last 100,000 miles without any problems or tune-ups. Most of us on this forum are enthusiasts and we change the oil more frequently because we sympathize and understand what an engine goes through. However, the truth is 7,500 mile oil change interval is fine as well as recommended by the manufacturer.

I changed mine for the first time at 3000 and used Pennzoil 10W-30 (I should have used 5W-30) and for the second time at 6000 using Mobil-1 5W-30 and a Mobil-1 filter. I will change it at every 6000 from now on using only Mobil-1 synthetic.

I only have 1300 miles right now. I plan to take it at 3750 for the first oil change. I get the first one free at Montgomeryville Acura.
