First Oil Change ? ?
First Oil Change ? ?
When did you guys get your first oil change? I just hit 1000 miles and I was wondering if you all did your first one earlier then the normal 3000-5000 miles.

The dealer says, the first one at 3750 and then at 7500 after that. Does that sound about right? I will do one about every 5000 miles after the first one.

Do whatever makes you feel good. Anything more than every 5000 is a placebo effect unless you drive in a cloud of dust everyday. In that case, 3500. I'd just follow the manual. I do mine every 5000.

I did mine at just over 4K with Mobil 1. I've heard that with synthetic oil, you can change your oil less frequently. (But it is more expensive, so it works out to cost the same in the long run.)

I think time is an issue. Assume someone has only 3000 miles at the end of a year.
They might ask, well it has been a year. If they were on the city cycle, they might have water, acids collecting in the oil.
So, I am no oil expert. I don't know HOW LONG the oil can suspend water and other contaminants. So, there are a number of factors that get included:
1. Hot shoe driving (3000-6000 all the time)
2. Long high speed runs on the freeway (the car gets warm and stays warm) OR the car goes 1 mile for milk (car sits for 10 min), then 2 miles to pickup some more stuff (car sits for hour) then car goes 1 mile, etc, etc.
3. HOW LONG between oil changes.
The balance is between doing a "perfect" break in with the "mysterious" break in oil OR to leave this magic/mysterious break in oil in way too long.
So, I've now brought up more questions than answers, but there is going to be a trade off.
If someone is putting 10K on the car a year, then do the oil changes after the 3750/5000 or whatever the "magic-oil" interval is, and then change it as often as you want.
My point from the earlier post was this:
If you don't follow the manual, and some corrosive stuff builds up in the oil, and Acura asks for the Maint records, they are going to say, "Why didn't you follow the book? We told you so. You didn't maintain the car well, so you get to fix it."
(I am not saying that are GOING to do this, but they COULD do this [if I read the manual correctly and by what Acura care has said, "always go with the manual first"].)
BTW -- it is only my opinion.
