first mod--- advice appreciated...

so i have a 2001 cl-type-S and i was talking to a friend over the weekend. he said i should definitely upgrade the air intake and filter. i think he mentioned AEM. he said thats the first thing he would do.

also, my other friend has a IS300 (those sure look nice) and said theres a supercharger coming out for it from toyota racing that jumps it 100hp. anything like that for us?

any advice greatly appreciated. im a bit of a car novice so please speak slowly. ha.
i wouldnt mind dumping some $$$ into a nice deal. im reading through the archives here to find mods and suggestions. thanks for the help

no supercharger for us. supposedly comptech is developing one, dont hold your breath though .
AEM CAI is one of the most popular ones along with Injen. Good cheap mod. If you ahve some dollars to spend, go with sways and headers. than tires.

Welcome Shane, what part of Colorado ? If you're interested in the supercharger it looks like next year. The headers are your best bet if H.P. is your main concern, they rock and were my first mod along with sways which are also awesome.

I went with the aem cai first. I figure I'd wear out the tires first and replace those next.

thanks for all the input...

im a big car dummy: what the heck are 'sways'? make me corner faster? i did some research and it seems that if i modify the rims/tires and lower it at all it will make it ride a little rougher. i dont think i want to do that. my wife has a 2000 RL and i love the smooth ride it has. im not really a street racer or anything (i drive 10 miles @35mph to and from work)

headers= engine mod= faster,. more HP?

air-intake= seems about $400 right? and then i take the parts somewhere local and get them to install them? i suppose this is a great place to start, seems to me it almost "needs" to be done.

also, do any of these void the warranty?

im not really on much of a budget. i suppose i would pay around $5000 or so for the right mod that would help out speed.

thanks for all the detailed help. it hurts being a newbie.

got $5,000 to spend on speed wait till Comptech SC is completed and you can sure spend those $$$$ on it.

CAI is just $200-250 and installtion either you can do it yourself, or someone will install it for you for $50.

headers are the chromed pipes that take the burned gas away from the engine to the exhaust,

but wait a sec if you are not a racer why are you willing to spend $5k on performance mods?

smooth ride? why didn't you get the CL-P then? CL-S stock ride is pretty stiff compared to the CL-P as I recall. Lowering is fun But if you like 4x4 look & feel, go for the intake first...it should run you around $200 for the AEM.

Sways are good for cornering ability, yes. If you get them, you will be able to maintain a 35mph speed at all times on your way to work. You won't have to slow down for corners. :p

I take corners much faster than stock with my new sway bars.
